Two Batteries Instead of Four - Issues?

It's simply a matter of choices in terms of packaging and pricing. If money was zero object I have no doubt that everyone here would be running four 6T-AGM's and the 260A or 300A FMTV alternators. But that's a $4500 to $8500 alternator and $2800 in batteries. But make no mistake - you are...

Two Batteries Instead of Four - Issues?

It's pretty simple - it's just a pair of batteries in series providing 24v (for the PPD/LBCD, and the starter leads) with one extra lead that happens to come from the middle of the pair to provide 12v for the PPD/LBCD 12v stud that feeds the 12v subsystem. A two battery system is the simplest...

    Aluminum wheels

Likely true but doesn't change the fact that the HIMARS trucks exhibit this same lack of thread engagement and Lockheed isn't concerned.

    Air Flow CFM?

Kinda makes sense since it's "inducing" a flow by creating a low pressure zone.... Incorrect but I can see a fire department type mixing that up. Little different than Marines half the time - running AT flaming wreckage requires a quality of foolishness that escapes most intelligent beings.

Two Batteries Instead of Four - Issues?

I personally stick with four. One simple reason. Two is one, one is none. With four you can drop to two. With two (one failed, punctured, destroyed, lost in a boating accident, etc)...... you can walk 🤷‍♂️

    Air Flow CFM?

That is the particulate extractor. Lookup "eductor" for an education on this technology.

    Ether Bottle Question

Don't delete it. 3116's can be hard to start in the cold. Block heater and pre-heating is all good but those both take time. Something you may not always have an abundance of. Ether will make it possible to start the truck nearly immediately from a completely cold state. As for removal - it...

    Air Flow CFM?

I feel like it's wrong to state it exactly in that way since the filter size is really a function of how dirty the environment is....... if the engine was operating in a clean room it wouldn't actually need a filter at all. And the eductor /spin housing for particulate extraction only exists as...

    Air Flow CFM?

https://www.carburetion.com/calc.asp 288 CFM. CFM of the filter needs to be AT LEAST 288 CFM even when the filter is plugged and needs to be replaced and the filter size has to be large enough that cleaning it isn't a nuisance - a simple 2" diameter unrestricted pipe flows 1,615 CFM (at sea...

I might be a little crazy – 4,000 mile M1079 recovery Illinois to Alaska

Probably the newer map has more refined injection timing. Injection timing and number of injection events per combustion stroke (yes there can be more than one) all plays a HUGE part in the noise of the engine at idle. Had a rep from Isuzu that showed us how he could dramatically change the...

Dual voltage or 28 volt alternator?

True. You'll be happy to know that the FMTV A2 comes with a Prestolite 600A 24v unit. It's 95 lbs with an MSRP of only $9,250 As for the reason for the 12/24 alternator in 2025 - for me it comes down to inertia and cheap surplus parts. The 300A Niehoff 12/24 (600A combined output) fits the 260...

Transmission stalling engine shortly after start up - Advice?

Doesn't sound transmission related to me. You say it runs for 15 seconds.... That's quite a while. Will it go into gear and will it move in that 15 seconds window? Regardless - this smells like fuel system to me.

Dual voltage or 28 volt alternator?

The lighting system is still 12v. Ronmar knows the changes needed to accommodate the VIM and TCM.

Dual voltage or 28 volt alternator?

The one concern I have is the availability of that unit. Admittedly I run a rare, expensive unit myself but I have a brand new spare and the 300 uses the same fitment as the relatively common 260A dual volt so I can swap to one of those with zero changes to fitment.

Just won an auction - M1088A1

Those cans are going to apply something like 2,800 lbs of force to retract against the springs that probably push back with 1400 lbs (back of hand calculation based on can diaphragm and 120 psi tank air, and ~60 psi balancing the springs where you start to feel the parking brakes drag) so net of...
