If you truck fires up then shudders and dies after a few seconds, it's likely air in the line between the fuel filter and IP. You're basically burning the fuel left in the IP and some in the line, then going dry. Continuing to crank will eventually work the air out, which is why the WD-40 trick...
I had similar problems with hard starts. It did turn out to be the fuel filter base...it was the white sensor (fuel pressure). Here's the thing that had me stuck: it let air in but not fuel out. therefore there was no fuel leak to indicate the problem.
Try this:
remove fuel filter.
pry...
One of those 4x4 sites had spindles to build your own. I was going to start with a 2x4 piece of steel tube and get some mileage out of my torch. I'm running through my head what other "stuff" needs addressed.
I'll likely wait until spring to drop the tank, patch holes in the bed and do some...
IF they are cracked, is there anything that can be done? I saw some pics online and wondered if silver solder would flow into the cracks or hit it with some brazing rod. Using a torch to heat it to that point could mess up the temper though.
Should this be in the FAQ? Last month I got my 09 starting perfectly by addressing this. I didn't see any evidence of fuel leaking but with clear tubes I found where air was getting in (through the switch). I plugged it with a screw and some seal-all but same result. Now it starts on the...
Did you use the stock mounting brackets for that rear bumper or did they have tube steel welded on the back side for mounting?
I'm interested in something like that to mount a rear tire carrier but don't know if the factory brackets would hold it...especially when swinging it out.
I read that about the bolt size too. The valve issue, per my understanding, is lower pressure differential when they open and therefore less vibration on the crank. Valid? Who knows.
Price is about $180 which seems steep for what is essentially 2 bent pieces of sheet steel and bolts.
Is this a common problem on the j-code engines like it is on the civy versions?
As usual, the interwebs are full of conflicting "info". Some places say it's an issue on all the 6.2/6.5 blocks. Others say the j-code valves are smaller and the military blocks have more nickle, making them less...
Check your local laws about emissions, vehicle age, etc. If to get around emissions inspections, will you have to register it as a classic? Does that limit the amount of miles you can drive it?
Also check the insurance price. Insurance is never kind to the young and something that large...
FWIW, I was going to put one in line with the fuel cutoff solenoid (pink wire on IP). That may be obvious to theives unless the switch is somewhere so hard to reach that I'd likely never use it though.
What I ended up doing was installing a circuit breaker inline between the +12V side of the...
Is there a place where air is supposed to re-enter the vacuum lines to simulate a WOT of a gasser? On a gasser, vacuum would be present when the thottle is closed but opening the throttle would allow air back in to the line and let the vac. modulator return to normal mosition. On the diesel...
If you are really interested in getting better mileage, look for other ways to recapture waste heat or energy. For example, if you put just the turbine part of a turbo-charger in and ran a generator to make the H2 and O2 you may be on to something. A better method would be to just use that...
I once saw a youtube vid where someone took a similar setup then piped the gas to a jewelers torch. May be worth checking out if you ever have the inkling to weld thin sheet or jewelry while camping...
Thanks for the suggestion, Tanner. I completely forgot about Jasper. So here's an additional question: do the 'hard parts' inside these things ever really wear out or get out of spec? I was under the impression that an overhaul replaces all the seals, friction bits and anything else not...
It's not unfortunately. I went from one issue (not holding 3rd gear)
to a new one (doesn't want to upshift unless I move the detent down then up) after replacing fluid, filter and modulator.
I'm thinking one of the valves moved by the governor or modulator is stuck, which is why I...
For what it's worth, a few years ago there was a report posted on TDIclub (the diesel VWs) comparing a few different diesel additives. Turns out 200:1 two-stroke oil was the best in the lubrication deptartment, better than any of the cetane booster type things.
When I fill up my TDI and add a...
