We got both of our 1968 M35A2's in 2004. Both trucks had under 20K miles and came from the Texas National Guard.
The serial #'s were 52 digits apart. Both trucks looked identical, same paint, had soft tops, etc, except:
One was a W/W with a non-turbo engine with no rebuild tags or markings on...
Are you kidding???? I'd tell them the smoke from their house going up in flames is alot worse.....
Well.... Some of the complaints were made to the county officials who supply our fuel, insurance, and our main budget. Our County Commissioner offered to pay a mechanic to install the turbo for...

Got your PM, will shoot you an email this weekend.
Our M35A2 W/W did not come with a turbo. it had the LD-465 in it. We recently added a "D" turbo to it, and adjusted the fuel pump timing for a turbo engine per the manual we have.
It runs a lot better now, smoke cut way back...
Batteries problems are a PITA in a deuce firetruck trying to run 12V lightbars, sirens, and radios off of a 24V system.
We went to Optima gel cells with the UTL plastic adapters so that the smaller optima's will mount correctly in the deuce battery box, the optima's are a big improvement over...

How many Deuces do you guys run?
Yes the drought has been killing us down here as well, we have also spent a lot of time recently working on our two active deuces, luckily we have two volunteers who are diesel mechanics at their regular jobs, and this forum, which is invaluable...
Right now it is a PITA for Texas Volunteer Fire Departments to get trucks from the FEPP ( FEDERAL EXCESS PROPERTY PROGRAM ) as the Texas Forest Service, which oversees the program, is trying to change the way the trucks are distributed.
Used to the trucks were given out but remained property...
Two months ago we changed out all the torque rod ends in both of our deuces.
The rear axle top torque rod had a bushing fail in our M35A2 WO/W. The rear axle rolled a little and the drive shaft connecting the rear axles slipped out. Luckily we were driving slowly off-road and caught it before...
sorry to be off-topic, but since it was mentioned how rare the M36A3 is...
Some website has a few M36A3's for sale at a gulf coast state right now, they are listed as M36A2's, but the pictures and descriptions show A3 modifications, engines, etc.
Yes, you have to call and ask about the military tires. They are not listed on the website by tire size or type. The paper catalog lists most of the military tires they have by size and manuf.
The only mention on the website is:
Through various government, military, and private contracts...
We found a good source of used Military tires and figured we would pass it along:
We purchased eight 9.00 x 20 tires for $39 each. All of the tires were like new, and most of them still had the new tire "knobies"
The tires were a mix of Goodyear and Fidelity brands
Gensco Aircraft Tires

We've been using NAPA SAE30 ever since we got our first deuce as that is what the military manual we have said to use....
Our two diesel mechanics have talked about changing oil type, but we haven't yet.
We did change to NAPA 80w/90 for the tranny, transfer case, winch, and the difs.
So, you're saying that the M35A3 actually has 14.5 x 20's and that I can get the 12.5 x 20's and dual them out on a M35A2?
Will there be issues with the duals "touching" each other with 12.5 x 20's?
We've been told that if we ran 11.0 x 20's that the duals could touch with potential problems...
Found a used tire place near us that has slightly used Military 12.50 x 20 Michelin's for $125 each. Is this the tire size on the M35A3?
I assume that we would need the bigger A3 style rims if we went with these?
We were actually looking for 11.00 x 20's to replace the 9.00 x 20's on one of...
This web site has this story along with another "swamp found" T34.
WWII Russian T34 Tank Rescue.
WWII Russian T34 Tank Rescue.
There is also a Stug III found in Russia
German WWII Sturmgeschutz found
KV-1 found in the NEVA river, I like the machine guns found with it :-D
Russian WWII KV Tank...
Thanks,
That helps out a lot, at least we can look it up and maybe get some TM's for it.
It's going to need batteries and a passenger side window. After the previous fire dept replaced it, it sat outside for a few weeks and someone threw a brick thought the window.
I just realized I posted...
Our sister volunteer fire department we work and train with has been given a 5-ton 6x6 water tanker.
While we have two 2.5 ton M35A2's, this will be their first military truck.
The truck is supposed to be delivered soon, I was hoping I could post a picture and someone ID the model number...
A salesman at Boyce equipment told me that someone was/is making a replacement 5th gear for the 3053 transmission, but my mechanics tell me ( who have rebuilt one of our 3053 transmissions ) that they don't see how just one different 5th gear will work without some other modifications to the...
fasttruck is right, we got a warning from the Forest Service a while back about using non-baffled tanks and the danger of making converted military trucks top heavy.
The 2 deaths in a report we read had one example of a M35 rolling over, and the 2nd of a firefighter falling off a modified front...
