I searched and searched for an M1109 in Washington or Oregon in my price range, and I could find one. So, I traded my camaro for my new BEAST. I have big plans for it, but I think I need some parts from a CUCV to really make it what I want.

Mystery trans, non overdrive...
I am a student of auto upholstery, and after recently trying and failing at a few vinyl headliners, I will tell you that this would be a VERY time consuming, and frustrating process. I just dont think you will get the stretch you want or need for most of the corners. Even just on your doors...
Here is what I would love to do someday. Take your M1009, put the axles out of a M1028, along with taller tires, and an overdrive trans.
Then you will have all the low end you really need, and be able to cruise.
If you decide you just dont want it any more, let me know ;)
I think it would be cool to have one of these someday, and I was wondering what it takes to even be legal to drive it on the state roads.
Just wondering :)
I hadnt thought about how bad winter is in other parts of the country. This is still an option, but not till at least march.
Thanks everyone, I will bookmark this thread and come back to it someday. ^^
Grr, all it takes is money.
Too much money v.v
I think maybe a private party rig would be a great choice also, but it costs more money that way :(
Right now, there is nothing on my side of the country I am interested in.
You know, that M1008 sounds like a great deal, even with the blown head gasket. If I knew a little more about diesel engines, I would totally buy it.
When I go on this adventure, I would LOVE to barrow those tow bars :)
I have had this thought, and I know there would still be a million and one things that can go wrong, but I figure if I bring two batterys, replacement hoses and belts and install them right away, that should take quiet a bit of the un-certainty away. Dont get me wrong, I know that still leaves...
Well, all the M1009s I have found so far are on the east coast. I am hoping to have the money by early December to buy my first rig, and I am worried about it breaking down on the way back. I figure instead of going out twice, once to look, and then once to take it home, I would be better off...
A few other questions I had,
5. How long did it take You from the day the auction ended till you were able to come pick it up? At that point, how much time do you have before you MUST pick it up?
6. What did you have to do before you could get it registered in your state and get tabs on...
Well, I decided to pass on an M1009 a few weeks ago because I just couldn't afford to get the one i had my eyes on. I still want one of these trucks, and Im putting money together now to get one.
Sadly, as a student at a tech school, I still live with my mom and dad, and they pay my car...
Im going to keep saving my money, and watch out for road dangers to my camaro in the mean time. Hopefully, an M1009 will pop up in Washington, if not, I will get it from the east coast when I have the money to do it right, and I can afford the back up plans.
Your advice will be VERY helpful...
I think I want an M1009 more any way... Sounds like they have the better top speed, and the better fuel economy.... Much better for my plans.
M1028 will be coming a little down the road when I am ready to build a gallons per mile 4wd rig....
