    Rear Axle Came Loose...

I can help you out with the M1008 rear hub part if you can get that spindle stub cleaned out. It's the Christmas spirit. Let me know.

    M1008 won’t move when cold

Like outlined up top. The transmission is old and tired and the seals are not happy anymore. I had this issue on a few CUCV's. I don't mess with them anymore. I pull them out and drop them off for refreshing and live happily ever after. I still do the R & R myself. The internal work. Not a...

    Rear Axle Came Loose...

I remember buying them CUCV 14 bolt axles in the crates for $400. in the late 90's. Someone has a good axle for you. All you need is the complete rear axle housing. I had a few but no more. It will be an inexpensive repair if you can just find the rear axle complete. Good Luck.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I work when it is cold. I have a heater/wood stove. I need to get some time and get it in place. I like the winter off. I have lots of outside in the cold work. I was out and put 2 gallons of ATF in the transmission and 4 gallons of 50/50 mixed Dex-Cool in the radiator. It keeps me paced. I have...

    Rear Axle Came Loose...

I had to fix more then 1 rear CUCV axle like that. Only 1 was able to be saved. That axle stub looks like it may be wasted. That thing has been screaming for a while. Shame that is an expensive fix. I am sure the hub is ruined also. I had a local truck shop that had a die to correct the threads...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

First day I felt like doing any extra work in over a week. I gathered a few parts and fluids I needed to proceed. Working on these old trucks is expensive at times. I picked up new battery's and did a lot of finish work under the hood. I did fail to attach the brake lines from the front...

    Torque converter cover bolts

I was out playing in my barn most of the day and thought I would take a few pictures for you. This is the original clamp and cooler lines. This is how they came from the factory. I hope that helps. And the fact that they are clean and painted helps you see the detail of each part. Happy Holidays.

    6.2 vs 6.5 fuel pump

I have had 6.2 fuel pump issues in the past. Many places list a lift pump that will fit. But the pumping action of the lever takes place below the stroke of the 6.2 eccentric. The incorrect pump has little or no resistance with in a 1/2" when you activate/depress the pump lever. The pumping...

    Torque converter cover bolts

You are correct. The cover on the flywheel to transmission are M10 x 1.5 metric. The clamp bolts on the bottom are 7/16" 14. The bell housing to block bolts are 3/8" 16. They did a whole mix of metric and standard on the drive line. The water pump has 5/16" 18 nuts holding the fan clutch on...

    Torque converter cover bolts

You are correct about a clamp that attaches the transmission cooler lines in place. The correct bolt size is 7/16" 14 threads per inch. Hope that helps.

    Problems with Driver/Passenger Seats --> m1009

I don't recall that the back rests do lock. I think they just fold front from hinge and that is the way they are. I know the passenger seat has a cable that unlocks the slide when you fold it front so people can ingress and egress the rear seat area. I also know that the seats are not the same...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

been dragging my feet a lot lately on my project. It rains, it snows, it gets cold, I get sick. Well tonight I did manage to paint the battery trays. They were easy and in great shape. Just needed a coat of satin black. I dropped off my battery cables at a shop today to get new cable ends...

Another Glow Plug - Starting Issue Thread

I could get that thing running in half and hour at 13*. At 26* 15 minutes is enough time. Sounds like the batteries may need load tested. And I still use A C Delco 13G glow plugs. Do as you wish. I know you are a great mechanic. You have been keeping a 33 year old vehicle running for a few years...

New 1008 - Glow Plug Resistors Disconnected

I have been back to driving a 1987 M1028. As it gets colder I noticed the truck started harder in the AM. I never bothered to look but the wire coming from the resistor was almost completely cut/chewed thru behind the resistor cover. I attempted to remove the resistor as an assembly but NO the...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Last night I braved the cold and windy conditions and cleaned and started to install the front light wiring harness onto the M1009. I cleaned all the sockets, washed the loom and replaced a section. I also re-taped all the sections that were taped from new. The original tape is very dry and...

    Driver alternator belt tightening question

At this point if it is tight and charging I would let it be. If it bothers you that much. I assume the case on the alternator will need split and the internal nut tightened. I don't rebuild alternators. I have had a few split to add hour meters but I let the electrical parts to an electrical...

    Trans issue (m1010)

I tend to agree with the pump doing the whining. The transmission filter is probably clogged with debris from clutch surfaces breaking and burning away. At over 30 years old the transmission even if new in the box has aged and things like clutches and seals become brittle and stiff. I had...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

That issue with the generator 2 lower bracket was even present on GM water pumps towards the end when they were still GM pumps. Now they are marketed as A C Delco and they are the same as all parts. World wide market. They work fine I have installed many over the years. The modification to the...

    Steering Drag Link

Thanks for Sharing your POSITIVE post with all. I have over maintained all of my vehicles and equipment all my life. I use things a bit hard at times. But they hold up. My Terminus M1009 stood the test of extra severe abuse and use. It held up. I worked on it a lot but it held up. The best I...
