1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

You are correct. Most CUCV's I work on have the wrong bolts in many places. My friends has 3/8" bolts in his and he ate belts and it rattled all tetime. He ask me one day to check it out and I went to loosen the belts and they were 9/16" heads on both alternators. I knew something was wrong...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

POP QUIZ: This is a special M10 1.5 shoulder bolt that is used on the CUCV 6.2 diesel. Does anyone know where it is used? Clue there are only 2 of these special bolts on the engine. And the entire truck from my experience. Of course you could use it many places but it is application specific and...

M1009 rear tailgate glass, they supposed to go all the way down?

If it where mine I would just buy a new regulator for the K5 Blazer. A lot less work and a lot less hit and miss. Even a good used one if cleaned up and properly greased and oiled will last a lifetime if maintained. Good Luck.

    fuel issues

Very Interesting. As I always say. If you never had the fuel tank out of your CUCV and want a dependable vehicle. It is important to disassemble the fuel tank, sending unit and replace/remove/clean the fuel sock. That rust came from condensation inside the tank. I can imagine the inside of the...

M1009 rear tailgate glass, they supposed to go all the way down?

Possibly a Suburban regulator. The Suburban gate is a bit taller and that would make up for the down stroke of the glass. Not that I know as a fact. But the top/up height would be the same. The gears would have less teeth and the window would not go down as far. Just tinking from my GM days. 30...

Need some interior hardware sizes ....

Yea really. I am sure it was a real bother to give the answers to the person. I don't search for everything either. I ask. Most times NOT here either. I am glad people ask questions or they wouldn't ever know. Read the TM's was the battle cry of yesteryear. Now check the search feature is the...

M1009 rear steel brake line size

3/8" flare nut on the axle side. Should be 7/16" on the upper hose connection. No need to spend the $ on stainless steel. The old stuff you are working on lasted 30+ years. I restore/remanufacture and still only replace with like kind quality. These lines are the original ones from 1985 and I...

Need some interior hardware sizes ....

The seat belt bolts have a 21mm head on them. 13/16" will work. They are a metric thread bolt. If it were me I would take a small propane torch to heat the bolts from underneath before attempting to loosen them. The seat is standard 3/8" bolts that require a 9/16" socket/wrench to remove. To be...

M1009 rear tailgate glass, they supposed to go all the way down?

Blazer and Suburban rear glass are NOT the same. Neither are the gates. Completely different. Also there is a mechanical switch at the bottom of the gate that senses the glass being in the down position. That has a spring and is in a plastic clamp. That mechanical switch/lever can get very rusty...

M1009 brake light goes out when blinker is on

Another possible cause is the flasher under the dash in the fuse block. Switch the lower flasher with the upper flasher. If the problem goes away replace the defective flasher or both. Good Luck. Report Back.

M1009 brake light goes out when blinker is on

Probably the ground in the socket itself. Replacement sockets are inexpensive and easy to replace. Good Luck.

M1009 rear tailgate glass, they supposed to go all the way down?

2-3" is not down far enough. They do stick up about 1/2" when down all the way. You have side guide issues or regulator. That rear glass system is an expensive item to replace and over haul. I have used a trim lock item to change the side guides and oil and grease go a long way on the sash...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today is family day and I checked all my parts. It was a bright sunny day and everything is dry and nice looking. I did manage to break the ground wire off the sending unit when I removed it from the tank. No problem. I will drill the ground tab and attach the new ground wire with a screw and...

M1028 Washer / Wiper intermittent malfunction

Do this. It works 99% of the time. At that price I stock 2-3 and keep snow plow trucks moving. Then when your done you can go wiggle your stalk. Or if wiggling your stalk and hacking wiring is your thing have at it. NOT my truck. It takes 10 minutes to change a wiper motor. In the time it took...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Yesterday I took advantage of the nice weather. I cleaned , prepped and sprayed the parts for my M1009 rebuild. All came out well. More later. Have a Great Day. These are all remanufactured parts. Or repurposed as I also like to say. Others say JUNK.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Today I spent my time cleaning up parts for undercoating. It is supposed to be 70* tomorrow. Not many nice days like that left this year. Time to get out the undercoating gun and spray outside. Messy job but it needs done. Always comes out nice. I wire wheeled the tank and core support. I used a...

    M1009 Different Seat Installation Question

Hey I didn't see your response. But yes. You can build up from the floor with steel tubing. I prefer to use some stock pedestal for safety. I used Astro van pedestals and the M1009 pedestals also. I even used 1988-1998 pick up bench split seats in the M1009. Using my flat bar as a platform to...

    208 lost 4-LOW

Put the transmission in neutral and it will shift right in with one smooth movement of the shifter. No need to turn the engine off. Just shift it with a smooth one movement shift when the transmission is in neutral. All is well. Good Luck.
