    Compression Testing on MEP 002A/003A

FYI: Today I tried adjusting both sets of valves from the "A". Got black smoke instead of blue/white.) Removed the 002A's head, tore it down, cleaned the valves (one had a slight stickiness to it), checked out the cylinders (clean and smooth) and put 1/8" marvel mystery oil in each. Had to...

    MEP-002A Valve Adjustment Procedure

Lucky, I think you may be on to something. I managed to turn the 002a which is my current project, from white/blue smoke to all black and back to white/blue today fooling with valve adjustments, but using a and b. will try a only. It can't get much worse. Jerry

    Compression Testing on MEP 002A/003A

LuckyDog, I'll know when I receive it, but am sure it is 1/4 npt, as my other one is. I need to find a schrader fitting to work. Tom, I'll let you know how it goes. Might a check valve from the fuel line work? ( I know it offers no relief, but it should offer highest compression registered...

    Compression Testing on MEP 002A/003A

Stan, I tried to use the adapter with my 2000 psi gauge but no-go. just ordered an 800 psi wet gauge and will let you know how it works. can't seem to find a pressure relief fitting to reset the gauge so will do it manually unless gauge is responsive enough to follow compression strokes. The...

    MEP-002 rough running

I'm going through similar issues with a MEP-002a. Mine will now run continuously and carry about 4500 watts while blowing heavy blue smoke. Adjusted the valve clearances, timed the IP and finally have it running with the heavy blue smoke. Have pretty well narrowed it down to injectors...

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

aspann, glow plug should have no impact on block/head temp in this weather since I'm assuming he is not using glow plugs to preheat in summer. Jerry[thumbzup]

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

the cool cylinder is the issue. Obviously not heating up because not firing/burning fuel at same rate as the other cylinders. possibly the injector is at fault or poor compression, or blocked/leaking fuel line. Most likely a bad injector. You could confirm by rotating that injector to a...

MEP one cylinder smoking on start up

"you will have to remove the exhaust cover on the louver box to do this test." I've had pretty good luck noting differences at the glow plugs. No need to pull any sheet metal. Jerry 2cents2cents

    MEP 002 blowing DC breaker

You have done what I suggested in pm. I'm not electrically smart enough beyond that point, other than to suggest that you check to see that you actually have a good ground strap and solid connection from engine to the frame and a good one from control box to frame. Jerry :grd:

    Generator head

What attendee is closest to me so I can meet up with him? I'm 70 miles east of Richmond. Am not attending the rally as I run a weekend flea market (also didn't know about it). Will do whatever I can to help. Jerry

MEP-002 - PC (Timing mark) Why can't I see mine?

Supply is not the issue, obviously, but supply through the injector to the cylinder may be. Did you check the hotness one injector area of the head to the other injector area? Even now, after running, you "might" notice a difference.

MEP-002 - PC (Timing mark) Why can't I see mine?

If it runs and cuts off again, test the temp of the injectors. I don't have an IR temp sensor but I sure can tell by touch if one is way hotter than the other, if so, the cooler one will likely be your problem. Jerry :grd:

MEP-002 - PC (Timing mark) Why can't I see mine?

The PC is not far from the "A". "B" is 180 degrees out from "A". If you can't find your timing mark (take index off after you have traced around its position, or if painted, the paint shadow will mark it well). The "O" you are seeing is likely the "C" in "PC". Larger hole will allow you to...

To bid or to buy, that is the genset question.

Ken, No more EUCs on many trucks, trailers or generators. That could change if they decide to surplus newer series generators in looming force draw-down :-(:-(.... Jerry :grd:
