Agree on fuel supply, question is what is causing it. When you turn the start switch, if there is no click from K3 in the control box, check its wiring connections.
If K3 clicks but no solenoid retraction, check wiring at solenoid. If solenoid is retracting in the start position, but linkage...
Lucky,
I wound up replacing the smoking engine. All is now well so I haven't messed with the valves. I did the experiment because I had nothing to lose and was curious. It changed things but would not allow the engine to run continuously. Using the TM procedure did allow the unit to run...
Because I have two 002A's I intend to keep, got a MKT roof off GL a couple weeks ago. Will insulate it and the walls (to be built). 8x10', a bit bigger than yours, but believe it will do the job. It will be right below my deck where the first 2-3 meps are in my avatar.
again, well done!

Jeepin, Harley,
You were right. I should have thought of it from the outset, but it has been several units since I had this problem and I just overlooked it.
Thanks.

Major update on this unit. Lots of progress but a few steps backward which still have me stumped
While waiting for the gauge and fittings to put NJTOOLNUT's glow-plug compression testing tool to full intended use, I changed out the valves, and finally switched heads, all to no avail...

Now that I see what you were e-mailing me about, you may have a parts unit.
If trying to turn the engine, use a 5/8" DEEP socket so you don't pull it off when removing from the housing, otherwise you have to remove the shroud to retrieve it. Let me know.

Bump.
Anyone in Richmond or Tidewater area of Virginia attending the Georgia rally in mid-October? If so, can meet you and transfer Gimpy"s head.

Lucky,
I have two 002a complete generators I've been stripping for parts and the engines will go to scrap yard, though I have no reason to think them bad. Could not get the units functional for other stuff that was missing or bad. (Can only have so much metal under the deck.) I'm about 8...
Lucky,
Tried the valves on A. Got black versus white/blue smoke. Pulled head and checked all out. readjusted valves per tm, back to white smoke. tm has worked for my other 002A's.
Jerry
FYI:
Today I tried adjusting both sets of valves from the "A", as LUCKY DOG contemplated. Was frustrated enough to throw caution to then wind. Unit ran. Got black smoke instead of blue/white but bogged under 1600 watts load.
Removed the 002A's head, tore it down, cleaned the valves (one...
