Therefore, idling a military unit will: cause the field modulation regulator to install too much current into the fields allowing the fields to burn out and perhaps the energy part of the regulator circuit?... I'm just hypothesizing, I have no ability to work on electronic circuits. I took a...
I doesn't have a throttle, I just finger the throttle butterfly on the carburetor after it starts popping and I hold it to fast idle for a few seconds till the head blow tepid warm air.

What damage or overload am I subjecting the electrics on the generator to?

Did you pull the heads? I have had success after pulling the heads and sandblasting the cylinders, tops of pistons up to the deck. Plug the waterjackets and oil returns and camshaft galley to keep most of the sand out.

Confusing, hmmm perhaps. Just another knowledge base to build. It would be to your advantage to know it, (the alternator issue) inside and out as well as well as other aspects of the CUCV before you make the jump.
Find the TMs and start with the wiring harness and learn.
CUCVs a great trucks...
Read this thread:http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/30979-cucv-alternators-im-still.html

I do believe one alternator on the drivers side on the CUCV...
