I remember working at Freightliner all the trans just hung off the back, Kenworths had the little support leaf, Western Star too just they use the bellhousing as the rear engine support.
Used a 7 ton jaw puller today and a few good whacks with a big brass hammer and POP off it comes flying. Seal in there is a CR 31185. The inside surfaces of the tapered hub, and the crank nose were shiny and clean. Now I need to order a new seal.
Once the new seal is installed (there is no lip...
IIRC when I changed out the p-pump on my old 94' 12v I remember there being a oil line on the bottom of the pump housing. I "think" it's a pressure line and then it dumps back into the engine through the front gear housing.
Yes sir I washed it first. I cruised the net looking for cummins special tools and never came across any from Snap-on, etc that were specific in pulling the adapter off, is it pressed on? I thought maybe a generic 5 ton puller would pop it off.
Ok so the bushing is normal like that, perfect :)...
My front main as leaking so I tore into it today. I got to the point where the harmonic balancer mount on the crank needs to be pulled off and I can see the seal behind it. Looks simple enough to replace when I get the correct puller. The seal sits in a round bracket inside the 2 piece front...
The Canadian deuce or MLVW they were called had the Detroit 8.2 V8 NA engines with the Allison MT643 tranny. I can remember a few running away when they were started up cold.
If they were factory turbo'd it would have been nice in those lil 2.5 tons.
Light Support Vehicle Wheeled.
I remember basing most of my career in the army repairing those. Made under license by Western Star Trucks. I'm surprised they auctioned them off, A HLVW would have been neat to pickup.
Are you gonna turn up the pump on her? A 4 banger powerhouse could be achieved :)
Transfer case mounted PTO would only run when power is put into the t/case. Unless one of those aux gear turns if it's placed in neutral but you'd have to leave the truck in gear. Trans mounted is ideal but access is limited
I would think a cable actuated one would be best because you can...
I wonder if the trans unbolts through the hole once the starter is off like some vehicles. I wouldn't unbolt the trans and just yank it off I think the torque converter stays on the flex plate.
Soooo...
I repaired my leak from the other thread with a new o-ring in the kickdown cable housing. And refilled it with ATF and a new spin-on filter.
For those who care ATF is a world of difference, smoother shifts, no hard clunk/bang from N-5 & 1-2 anymore. Very enjoyable.
Now the part most...
The little housing for the shifter cable has been leaking for a couple years now. I couldn't tell if it was the lil o-ring on the cable or the housing cover rubber gasket. Anyways, I pulled it off the cover to check both and oil starts leaking out, and still is - I have a 5 gal bucket under it...
So I replaced my PB switch with the proper one as the jake switch setup was too sensitive to bumps.
I put the new NOS one in and it's acting backwards like it should be. With the brake off (lever forward) the light stays on and with the brake on (lever back) the light is off. I can clearly see...
Just make your own.
Any heavy truck dealer has the proper air hose and SAE reusable fittings. When I worked for Western star/Freightliner we used 1/2" rubber, steel braided Aeroquip air hose and their reusable SAE teflon fittings.
Cut the hose to length, install fittings and away you go.
I run all 24V LED lights on my trailers
There is also a hot wire you can run to blue/aux pin that is ignition controlled for civvy ABS (if the ABS ecm is 24v) from the military wiring to a standard 7 pin connector. I cut the military truck side female plug off and installed a civvy 7 pin for my...
