My A3 used to do it until I greased everything. I couldn't tell what was popping, but greasing everything with a zerk stopped it. My A2 has never popped.
I wouldn't bother disconnecting the wiring. I would go ahead and replace the starter and try to start the engine. A good starter should have no problems starting the engine. I know you said you read the TMs so you probably already know that you need to keep holding the starter switch in the...
The TM for the MEP-003A doesn't mention that you shouldn't idle the genset, but I believe the MEP-002A manual does. However, idleing the MEP-003A will definitely damage the VR.
You can also find ground rods from any electrical supply house, but many of these are copper coated steel. My GI ground rods that came with my MEP-003A are solid copper or bronze, but I don't know if all of the GI rods are solid copper.
Ditto on Erik's. I've bought a lot of things from Erik and received great service. I recently received a faulty headlamp and he immediately forwarded a replacement. He also seems to get parts that others don't have. Highly recommended.
Both are very good gensets for the money. I have an MEP-003A and it easily handles my entire house including HVAC, ovens, lights, etc. I also use the 3-phase 208 VAC for 3-phase power tools. If you don't need the 10 KW get the MEP-002a and burn less fuel.
If the smoke is black it is fuel and you likely have no serious problem. As stated previously, the purpose of adding the turbo was to decrease the amount of smoke. Many deuce owners like to see the smoke. Forget it and enjoy your truck. :D
Take a video of the Deuce smoking. All Deuces smoke. You need to tell us the color of the smoke. A multifuel is not like a car or pickup that doesn't smoke unless something is wrong. Also, have you been letting it idle for long periods or been driving slow? Drive it at highway speed for 10...
I know - my headlight was out and I bought a new headlight. I turned it on and it flashed real bright and went out and blackened the bottom of the glass. Air must have leaked in. I've sent an e-mail to the supplier for a replacement.
Welcome to Steel Soldiers and good luck with your truck. The key is the VIN (serial number) and registration numbers. Do you know if the truck is U.S. Army or U.S. Air Force? Just because it came from an Air Force Base doesn't necessarily mean it is Air Force. Are any of the military...
I drove my M35A3, pulling my M149A2 water buffalo, in the Georgia Mountain Fair Parade in Hiawassee, Georgia last Saturday. Jimma's father Jim Reece drove his M35A2 as well. We had a great time, but it was very very hot. My A3 had the top removed and the sun was really beating down on us...
M37s have a timing chain and any vehicle with a timing chain can skip a tooth if the chain or sprockets are worn. I have had this happen on two different vehicles. It's easy enough to check and eliminates one possibility. You said you had spark, so that eliminates everything in the ignition...
