The only benefit for using the A2 20-inch wheel instead of the A3 18-inch wheel is more leverage when turning the wheel. If your Air-O-Matic is working, you don't need the extra leverage and all you do is minimize the room behind the wheel. I've seen a lot of NOS A3 18-inch wheels for sale if...
Ditto!
Ring mounts look cool, but they are a real pain to install and they get in the way and you are absolutely correct, they attract heads like a magnet. They also raise the height of the truck limiting entry into some buildings that previously had no clearance problems. All that being...
Dropping the spare tire on a deuce is extremely dangerous. Another thing to watch out for is the pawl skipping out. Never, never, never assume that the pawl is holding the wheel! It is not that difficult to unwind the crank safety. Do it slowly. Also, when cranking back up make sure the...
You can also pick up a take-out transmission for a reasonable price if you trust the seller. That's what I did when my A2 transmission lost 5th gear. Mine shelled a lot of teeth. $200.00 for a takeout and no problems since.
I would pull the top cover and check the forks. A fork may be bent or loose. Move the gears into 5th with the cover removed, then move shifter into 5th and see if the forks line up properly. Pulling the cover is easy and you can also get a good look at the gear condition.
You will hear a lot of bad comments about GL because people that are mad tend to complain more. People with good experiences tend to keep quiet. I personally have had only good to very good experiences with GL. That being said, there are some that have had bad experiences. A lot of it depends on...
I was afraid of the top plate cracking as well if I notched it. However, it would still provide some support if I noted it. I also wondered about notching it and welding a short piece of angle to the top to help handle the stress where I notched it.
I have a 69 A2 as well, but it does not...
The SF97 will come back with the date that you put on the SF97 application. If you put 1993 the SF97 will say 1993. If you put 1996, it will come back as a 1996. If you put 1993 on the applicaiton, you might be able to call GL and change it - don't know.
I replaced the motor oil in my...
I have an M35A3 and have installed an M66 ring mount. All M35A3s come with the large cab reinforcement plate already installed. However, my A3 also has a top reinforcement plate the covers the rear top of the cab. As you can see in the photos, there is no room between the poles and the rear...
WM, I don't go into any of my screwups - I've had more than my share and try to keep them quiet, but I feel your pain. I hope you find the parts you need for a reasonable cost.
You are correct, breating the dust is very bad. Also, cuts from beryllium don't heal and sometimes the doctor will have to cut a lot of tissue away from the wound before it will heal. I didn't know you were a chemist. Another use for beryllium that you might find interesting is that it is...
All of the engines in A3s have the 1993 tag on the engine. This doesn't mean that you can't title it as a later truck. Mine was titled in Georgia as a 1998. I looked at every date tag I could on the truck, especially axle rebuild tags, winch hydraulic tag, etc. Most of my tags were very late...
Beryllium is a very common alloy of copper for many uses, not just electrical connectors. Most BeCu alloys range from about 0.25 - 3% beryllium. A small amount of beryllium will greatly change the properties of Cu. BeCu alloys have magnetic properties near unity. They machine easily without...
I feel your pain. I dropped a wrench down inside my blower housing once. I took out all the obvious bolts and could never get the blower housing removed, although it was loose. Fortunatley, i was able to snag the wrench and get it out so I never completely removed the blower housing. I'm...
My problem was that I went to the DMV office run by the State of Georgia in Hapeville. I finally got my title by going to my local DMV office in Towns County. I didn't do anything except take the SF97, Paid in Full Invoice, proof of insurance, and the DMV T-22B form where a LEO verified the VIN...
You might want to try what I did. My M35A2 came from the PA National Guard. I received all of my information from Carnac on the vehicle and confirmed it by sanding. Like yours, mine was somewhat difficult to read after sanding. I googled the unit, got the unit's telephone number, and called...
