I used to work as a parts manager and we a had a dump truck do the same thing it turns put to have been two spun bearings it did a lot of damage to the crank some very deep marks in it we ended up doing a motor swap, i would gess thats what happened to you but no promises hope it turns out...

Carl BTW are you registering as a regular vehical or and RV if you use the RV you can aviod the dot phisical and i think the insurance would be alot cheaper there's a guy around my town that has three deuces and all are registered as RVs

I think head lights on is normal but the intermitant operation doesn't sound right i would check all the grounds on the head light system
