PA - Fall 2013 Rausch Creek Steel Soldiers Rally

I'd definitely like to explore the territory we weren't able to last spring. I think we should do unexplored course first then do the course we did last time. On the second day (Sunday), a few of us also did the other course, I don't remember which it was but it was significantly more...

    Troop Seat Compatibility

Hello. I have a M1028 and am looking for a set of troop seats for it. I've done some research and found that the Chevy CUCV (M1008,M1028 ) and the Dodge CUCV (M880) troop seats are compatible with each other, at least the Dodge to the Chevy. Is this correct? I may be able to get a set of troop...

PA - Spring 2013 Rausch Creek Sign Up Thread

I had a great time a RC this weekend! I finally got to meet and hang out with a bunch of the great guys on SS and did the best off-roading in my life, in a military vehicle convoy nonetheless.....you cant get much better than that. Thanks for everything, I'll definitely be attending future SS...

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Wow that fuel is extremely resiliant to removal! Is the "waving the torch past" a "good" method to clear it? Good stuff about the FG and fuel. That is definitely what I'm going to use to fix this can, and probably many more fuel tanks/containers in the future. That tank lining is something...

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

True about the brazing vs soldering....I dont have the ability to braze because I do not own an oxy torch. I'll do some more experimenting with the solder and flux. I have some pending projects (on my spring break I'm installing my new enigine into my Corvette). I have already soldered on the...

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Is avgas more "potent" than normal gas or diesel when it comes to tank degredation?

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Oh dont worry I am well aware of that....but you are definitely right! The can was literally so dry it was like a desert on the inside, hadnt held fuel for probably a decade. There was no vapor at all, and plus I....tested it.....with the torch before I soldered it. Probably not the most safe...

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

I am not at home, but it was just the silver solder that was like the same brand as the solder itselt next to it. Where do you get the handi flux? I have wire brushes. I do not have an oxy torch, only a propane torch. That may be my issue. Will

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Thanks a lot! Figuring stuff out and problem solving is my favorite thing to do, especially with mechanical / mechanical type things. I am in school so this project might not happen anytime soon, but when it does I'll be sure to report back with the results. Will

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Thanks for the information on fiberglass and tanks. Very interesting... I havent thought about brazing in a patch panel, maybe I'll give that a shot. This can is going to be my experiment in fixing a metal tank! Those NOS tanks are real nice, maybe in the future that will be a purchase...

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Hmm interesting.....It will be used only for diesel, so it shouldnt be a problem. I tried using a propane torch and silver solder and it just beaded off....I was brought to my attention that it might be chemical contamination. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Regardless there are holes too big to braze.

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Haha Yep I forgot about that.....But I see the point of the like delamination possibility. The rust is weird - The internal coating that came on the tank is still there except for like 4 various holes and a few pinholes. I think your method will do the trick. Oh fiberglass....we meet again...

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Thanks for all of the advice and information! So welding shop - Too expensive and not worth it. USMC - Got it! I could fiberglass is - I have done much glassing on the 'vette.....but is fiberglass fuel resistant for long term? The toolbox is cool - My friend actually has one, it would make a...

    Repairing Jerry can Holes/Leaks Help

Hello. I recently got a military jerry can for free. It is a USMC model made in 5/94 (the year and month I was born). It has many leaks and holes in the bottom, the largest being about 3/8 inch long. I would like to repair this can if possible. The holes are too big to use a liquid sealer, and...

Haha no vette even though I'm sure it'd be fun to do some Smokey and the Bandit action in it :driver:......My friends have a couple of jeeps and trucks who I'm sure would want to go. I'll look into getting them. Also I'm going to stay until Sunday. Will
