Alright, I'm just going to have the driveshaft repaired and rebalanced with new U joints. I'll let you guys know how it comes out.
One more thing- I need to change the front and rear output seals in the transfer case. Does this just involve removing the yokes, and seals and installing new...
Haha Alright, I just wanted it make sure that that is what it is, I'm gonna get my current drive shaft rebalanced and have the dent removed, along with new serviceable U Joints installed.
Yeah my front shaft has a metal clip held in rubber boot over the slip joint. Maybe I'll look into doing...
Hello. My M1028 is on the road and better than it has ever been, except one thing. There is a drone and vibration that starts at about 35-40 MPH, and partially receeds at 47 MPH. I think this is the driveshaft, as there is a 1/4 inch deep (about) dent in it right in the middle. When you let off...
Driver side alternator done. It is super nice, all new parts, bearings, fresh paint on the pully and fan, nice smooth operation and isolated ground-ness is spot on!
Thanks for all of the help one this one. I'll let you guys know how I make out with the other alternator and "new" rotor.
I...
Ok Ill try that then. I think I'm on for getting a whole other alternator tomorrow. It seems that just the rotor is almost impossible to find, unless you want to spend more than a reasonable amount to get it. I'll just take the rotor out and put it in my original alternator body - I have already...
Ok so I think I have a lead on an alternator.
I am rebuilding my driver side alternator now. What is the best way to torque the front pully bolt on? Impact gun or use a wrench and an allen key?
Thanks,
Will
I need a new rotor for the alternator, it is shot. Where or how can I get one, because they dont seem to sell them anywhere. Let me know what the best plan of action would be.
Does anyone have a bad alternator with a good rotor I could buy?
Will
Well I just used my ultrasonic cleaner to first clean it, then I took the usual toothbrush and lestoil and cleaned it that way. That made it clean, but it wont make it like a corrosion free freshly cast surface. If you want to polish it to make it shiny, or at least lessen the normal case...
Oh yeah I understand that!
Yeah thankfully I did. That would have been dreadful to have to take her down again once it's fully rebuilt.
I put out some emails to a few possible sources of rotors. I'll get back to you on the status later if I find one. In the mean time, I'll rebuild the GEN1...
Haha ok sounds good. I'll look into that tomorrow.
Is there any reason that this rotor failed? The other one is perfectly fine. They both are the original military issue units.
Will
Ok I did clean off the joints then. It reads good when I connected the slip rings together (thus creating a circuit) but when they are not connected, nothing.
If this is a bad rotor, I'll see if I can get a replacement. On that website you said before, they have new rotors, but only for the...
How do I clean the solder connection without unsoldering? Also I connected the slip rings together and checked from one slip ring wire to the other and it read good, so the slip rings themselves are good.... So what can I do now? Is there any way to test just the windings?
Will
Should there be absolutely no bubbles or "melting" in the varnish on the windings? There is no obvious burning, but there is definitely an area with some not perfect looking varnish. Could this indicate a bad winding? But wouldnt if the winding fail it would still have continuity, it would just...
Ok. A few things. Is it ok to unsolder the slip ring wires from the "connectors" on the frame of the rotor, this wont damage the insulation/varnish or anything? But I shouldnt need to unsolder it. Couldnt I just clean off the varnish on the frame solder "connector" and check it there and if this...
Hmmm ok there is no continuity on either between the rings and the shaft (this is good). One has cont. between rings, the other (the alt that wasnt working) does not. Is there any way I can test the actual windings and bypass the possibly faulty slip rings? Would you think it is an internal...
