I remember seeing "E MEANS EMPTY!" etched into the dash pad (or was it on the inside of the roof) of a CUCV... I'm surprised it's not a sticker or a stencil, yet....
Trust me, you're gonna be one heckuva better driver for the time you spend in the driver seat of the deuce.
One warning: You'll quickly find that you prefer driving the deuce over anything else. This is coming from 1st-hand experience.
I'd suggest spending a lot of time in empty parking lots...
Turn the engine over with the start button for a few seconds before pushing the "ENG STOP" lever back in. This allows you to check if the engine is hydro-locked without risking the engine trying to start with a hydro-locked cylinder.
Member JATonka has all of the CUCV manuals on his website where you can download them. Just right-click on each link and select "Save link as" or "Save target as."

They do seem to be much quieter outside the truck.
When you're in the truck, you've got all of the engine and road noise contained by the body and reverberating inside... it's like listening to a rock band in a tin can.
Just a generally good starting place that isn't expensive but is VERY SMART for EVERY vehicle that is new to you:
Drain the oil and drop the pan and look for loose hardware/metal etc...
It's always a good idea to get acquainted with your engine.
I'd start there, and start checking other places.
I had some made at Royal Hose and Fitting... if you can find a comparable place, they should be able to do the trick. I also had them make me a whole new set of rubber brake hoses... well worth the money for the peace of mind!
If you do some searching, there was a good thread where folks were posting their mileage reports for their CUCVs....
Somebody should bump it back to the top.
