1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

It is smooth. The only place it has mild rust is the area that was not submerged in gear oil. I am going to run it. That is so minor it hardly goes noticed. Sure you will never hear or feel that one chip ever. Clean oil and new seals are on the menu.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I sold the rear axle out of this project truck to a member here. When the time comes which is soon I will just have to uncrate one for the project. Might as well. Only hoarding them and taking up room. I sold the used one to the guy because he needed one. I have this one also. Take a look at it...

    Recommend Durable Seat Cover?

Use them seat covers only if you like the smell of oiled canvas and don't mind your clothing getting dirty with what ever black/green slime it is that comes off of the oiled canvas. I bought a few new pairs from a dealer back in the mid 90's and they were dirty and smelled of old tent canvas...

    Terminus M1009

After a full day of work at my regular job I went and worked my irregular job. I am cleaning up a few areas on the property that has blocks and stone on piles. I did find a nice cable that had some nice thimbles on it. I can tell by looking at it that it was a military cable. Close to Indiantown...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I picked up my M1009 frame parts today. They look great. I also had my mower deck belt covers done. I can hardly wait to get rolling on this project. I am eyeball deep in a few other projects. They are NON CUCV related but still important.

    Terminus M1009

If you wait, all that happens is that you get older. Let the fun begin. A put a For Sale sign on Terminus M1009 and set it out by the road. I have been bombarded with calls. Many are clueless as to what a CUCV even is. I go thru this everyday. I say things and people look at me like WTF are you...

6.2-6.5 long block or short block questions?

My Son' has a 6 " lift. I hate it but I took all 4 wheels off and set it on stock rims only with plywood under them to roll back and forth. Worked great. Or unbolt the entire front end and make a project out of it. That was easy. One Saturday in at 7AM and drove out at 5PM. 3 of us with cordless...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

In all the years I have had these CUCV trucks my experience has been. Radiator: It is a thin finned metal/plastic pressure vessel that water circulates thru. It is designed to reduce the temperature of fluid that flows thru it by allowing air to flow thru the core. IMHO each are good and if they...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Re-coring is always an option if you are a purist. my all time favorites was the Harrison replacements that were sold as the Genuine GM replacements back in the late 90's and available up till a few years ago. I have one stashed for a work in progress M1009. Just so busy with other projects I...

    M1009 Seat bolt sizes

All of the bolts in the floor pan of the M1009 that pertain to the seats are 3/8" 16 NC. I do not recall any other size. The seat belt bolts vary. Most are M12 X 1.75. Hope that helps. If it were me. I would buy a tap and clean and oil the threads really well before I seat the new bolts. Cost...

CUCV Snow Plow Trucks and Spreaders

Big Red went into B/O drive unplanned while a driver was out getting parts this AM. Time for a repair to the over heated fuse block. Follow the steps. Not a professional fix but it works and puts my truck back to work. I have been driving new trucks and kicked the CUCV's to the younger guys in...

    M1009 Seat bolt sizes

3/8" - 16 NC into the floor pan where the pedestals mount. The seat tracks are 5/16" x 18 NC and the seats are mounted to the track with 5/16" X 18 NC bolts. I have been using seats from brand new GM vans and the 4 bolt seat pattern still matches to the tracks but I must use M8 x 1.25 bolts to...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Very nice. I hope they didn't swab out the inside with RED paint. But if they did no trouble strip it down and paint it like they built it.

    NOS Seatbelts for M1009?

    NEW ONLY? In Bronze?

    Anyone paint their aluminum radiator?

If you want a stock radiator and tanks that needs re-cored I could saw off the tanks off a bad one. Box them up and mail them to you. You could get them re-cored and have an OEM Harrison for your restoration project. Just an idea. Shipping and a modest exchange will do. Let me know.

Looking for source of new emissions decal on radiator support

I have a local shop make decals all the time for emissions and such. Sure they could make these. You are referencing the exempt sticker on the M1009 only? Cool sticker. The Gen 1 and gen 2 filters new???? Are you wanting the white circle?

6.2-6.5 long block or short block questions?

If you were closer I would be able to hook you up. I still have a couple not cheap ready to go in from HMMWV's. My experience has been the stock form CUCV seems infallible. Good Luck. I have 6.2 engines.

6.2-6.5 long block or short block questions?

If it were mine I would put a stock 6.2 in it and call it fixed. I know you need it everyday and that would eliminate the problems IMHO.

Cracked Bolthole on Block for Starter

Also make sure you use a nylock nut on the starter stud to the bracket. Keeps it tight thru all that racket and vibration. Make sure you used an M8 bolt into the block. That is a metric hole for sure. I have seen many with a 5/16" bolt jammed in there and not seated tight. But 3 times as many...
