    MEP-002A no oil pressure

Agree with Tinstar, that hose is only a 1/4" ID and even smaller at the fittings, they can easily get clogged being a dead-ended line. You could crack one of the oil cooler hoses or even loosen the drain plug on the filter housing and start the engine briefly, checking for oil pressure before...

    MEP-002 pump problem

Search around here more, there was recently a post where a member had catastrophic engine failure due to that pin coming out and falling into the timing gears. I believe he ended up repairing things and threaded the hole in his replacement cover and made a new pin that was threaded on the end...

    MEP-002A no oil pressure

Your best friend when it comes to finding parts is the -24P manual. Find the PN you are in need of and do a google search, some things will come up available from all different places including right from Cummins as well as many engine / generator repair shops etc. Note: try searching using both...

803a fuel rack sticking problems, are there options before pulling the covers off?

Is the metering pump giving you trouble even after it is clamped down, or is the hold down clamp loose? If the cam lobe is pushing up on the pump at all, the lever on the metering pump will hit on the underside of the engine block casting and jam up the rack. if the clamp is totally loose, try...

    MEP-002 pump problem

C.B is correct. That's what I'm talking about. The other thing that bothers me is the bouncing up and down of the throttle lever / Governor arm as well as the fact that the governor arm is not attempting to lower the throttle arm despite the RPM's climbing higher and higher. The higher the...

    MEP-002 pump problem

So the biggest "problem" I see is that the lever that the throttle cable and governor spring attach to are definitely all the way back in the "Idle" position, therefore the engine should currently be running at minimum RPM, ( less than 55 Hz. ) not wide open throttle like it is. Since this...

MEP-802A - can this thing function with a 60' exhaust run?

If you can't get it flared, the parts store will have an array of adapters that you can use to allow you to clamp onto both the black iron and exhaust tube. Or weld (or have welded...) a short piece of 1 1/4" threaded black iron into the tube, then use a threaded black iron union to hook the 2...

MEP-802A - can this thing function with a 60' exhaust run?

Just go to your local auto parts store and buy 10' lengths of exhaust tube. Any 1/2-way decent store can order it quickly. O'riley's here in RI has in in their warehouse and can get it same day. You can also order it on line from places like Summit Racing and Jegs performance. Can get aluminized...

    MEP-002 pump problem

When you take pics of the governor and throttle cable, also get a picture of the arm that the cable attaches to relative to the bracket it's mounted to. That arm should be essentially 90* straight out , perpendicular to the centerline of the engine block. Also try to get a picture of where the...

    MEP-002 pump problem

To me it looks like the governor attempts to lower the engine speed just after startup ( right when the linkage goes from full up to about 1 1/2" space between the solenoid and the linkage. The governor for some reason seems to have no effect on engine speed. Can you manually lower the RPM with...

    Mep-002a fuel shutoff solenoid/manual shutdown?

I responded to your Parts wanted ad.

    MEP-002 pump problem

That is possible, if the volt meter is up around 300+ volts ( when in 120/240 mode ) and you can't adjust it down with the panel knob, that's a sure sign that you smoked 1 or more of the 3 transistors on the VR. If so, you can replace the transistors, or KKlopp makes a super nice, modern, drop...

    Mep-002a fuel shutoff solenoid/manual shutdown?

For now continue letting the IP clean out, but keep an eye on things, without the shut off solenoid you'll have no idea if it's overheating or not. If the hunting continues you may need to make a slight governor adjustment.

    MEP-016B/MEP-701A ExciteMent!

Simple, don't idle the machine down... It's supposed to be at 60Hz 1800RPM all the time. You never idle these things down to a "reasonable " level, always 1800 rpm, use the throttle knob to "set it and forget it!" Not sure that's 100% of your issue, but start there and see if everything solves...

    MEP-002 pump problem

In post #10 I'm talking about #5, which is the orange paper thin plastic ring you just installed. BTW, you installed it correctly, that's the way I have always done it. Slide it onto the body of the delivery valve assembly (#4 ) Then stick it into the main body.

    Mep-002a fuel shutoff solenoid/manual shutdown?

Probably still have a film of soft varnish on the plunger components. I'd recommend setting something up to load it with then running it at a progressively increasing load for a few hours or more, with seafoam or some ATF mixed in with the fuel. It should clean up on its own after putting a few...

MEP-802A - can this thing function with a 60' exhaust run?

Being that you have an auto repair background, I assume you already know to put a flex pipe of other flexible connection between your muffler and exhaust pipe... Universal flex pipes for cars work good and are only about $25.

MEP-1040 - "misaligned" fluid line connector, but no leak

Wow, that seems to defy all mechanical expectations! Looks totally wrong, BUT.... if it ain't broke.... Perhaps it is threaded on an angle intentionally, but it just looks wrong ;-)

MEP-802A - can this thing function with a 60' exhaust run?

Diesel Addict , Chain Breaker and the others all hit it on the head.... you won't have a problem with regards to back pressure, but that long run is going to cause the exhaust to condense in the pipe causing acidic liquid to want to run downhill, so you'll need to either slope the pipe away...
