    Alternate Alternator Selection

Yeah - it depends on what you want and how you feel about the modifications required to get there. The 24v AC unit will draw near 40A at full tilt...... If you want to run four 6TAGM's in the factory configuration for redundancy and for temperature resilience, and want to run four Victron Orion...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Well you guessed the alternator I'm running. The difficulty is the availability, the horrendous price from Niehoff, and the bracket situation. A few of them have turned up in the surplus world - mostly attached to HIMARS crate engines - but that supply has dried up for the time being along with...

    Electrical WTF, help please?

The burnt look is due to the vulcanizing process of the rubber onto the wires - that's typical of that type of connector and doesn't indicate a problem in my experience. The MMDC calibrates the gauges when powered up. They "park" when powered on, not when powered off. So I don't think that's an...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

The HIMARS bracket part numbers: 2920-01-585-3333, 12423692 Good luck even finding a picture of that guy. I've never seen one for sale and I've not yet even found a diagram showing it.

    Alternate Alternator Selection

By the appearance of the bracket and take a look at the 14v and 28v output lug locations, the fan guard type (260 is a wire cage) and the format of the VR terminals, V-belt pulley, etc. I know what all the alternators look like since I've handled them all - it's just a learning curve thing.

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Damaged threaded ground point. Clearly has been on a truck. Might work. Might be a boat anchor. Already has the lifting eye for anchor duties though!

    Alternate Alternator Selection

1 - That is a bracket. It's not the only revision of the HIMARS bracket. They had problems with them cracking and they have been redesigned..... 98 lbs of alternator will do that. *edit* - that first image is the 100A alternator. Not the HIMARS bracket. The HIMARS bracket is absurdly rare -...

    Alternate Alternator Selection

Yep that's the HIMARS alt. Very low production volume and very expensive. All the one's I've seen had serial numbers under 1000. They require specially reinforced brackets as they are 98 lbs. These guys claim to have one - "Call for price" usually means you don't want to know o_O...

Two little mysteries-Starter and Transfer case

Chinese Carquest trash. Most of the starters for sale are similarly absolute trash. If you have your original they can be rebuilt. Also check all your battery terminal connections and wire lugs, etc. If you want the starter to end all starters (I haven't tried one out on my CUCV but have used...

    Transfer case help….M1078 2001

Which I believe is just a fancy/generic way of saying -4 ORB. Looks like ORB will work unless the o-ring chamfer isn't correct to provide the seal. Appendix B of the troubleshooting manual. Found it here...

    Transfer case help….M1078 2001

Have you checked the transmission drain plug magnets and the scavenge line screens etc? I mean - the propensity for thrust bearing failures on these is the most obvious and likely scenario. Which would likely loosen up the clutch pack to the point where it couldn't engage even with good...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

In a way that is Goodyear giving us the FO price. You want this? Your gonna PAY for our inconvenience in giving you the time of day for a price. Also given the global security situation the demand has soared, and inflation has driven up the price of transportation and raw materials - we are...

Wiring Schematics for M1078 (1997 with new C7)?

Model's are A1(R) and A1P2 - actually the military doesn't officially recognize the "A1R" - it's just a late model A1 in terms of the EMS-NG system - but some documentation including PS Magazine articles and some of the schematics mention it so it's kinda stuck. A1P2 is the "phase 2" which are...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

A fellow member mentioned to me that he had a family member that owned a tire shop and got them for a little bit less than is shown in that ebay ad - but not much. The military gets huge volume discounts - in fact if it weren't for them the factory making these wouldn't even have a market to...

Wiring Schematics for M1078 (1997 with new C7)?

Well that appears to be the original 1997 MD3070 transmission - which was originally either a WTEC II or III. The transmission control module and the shift selector is for the WTEC-IV 3700SP transmission used in the A1R trucks starting with transmission serial 6510653277 and later. The two...

Axle (s) rebuild thread, gears and lockers

He is referring to the torque changing due to the addition of lubricant - which it does. Unfortunately without actual testing of dry vs. lubed using a dial indicator to check stud stretch it's impossible to say with much accuracy. Probably easier to clean the anti-seize off and reinstall them...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

That video from Michelin makes it sound easy - having experienced a front right sidewall failure on my DOT 2008 Goodyear MV/T's - the amount of sidewall on these tires and how far the truck drops on that one corner is ALARMING and the violence of the shredded rubber not evenly rolling under the...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

It's an all-day job to do 6 of them for sure. Not as hard as that video makes it out to be if you have the proper tools - primarily you need the Ken Tool slide hammer bead breaker: https://www.jbtools.com/ken-tool-35926-heavy-duty-impact-bead-breaker/ This makes short work of the bead and is...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

Tires are a HUGE concern especially if they are that old - judging by the mismatched rim colors this has already been a problem for it. If you lose a steer axle tire on the interstate you will, in all likelyhood, die horribly in the roll over and potentially take other motorists with you. IMO it...

    CTIS Question

The governor both unloads the compressor (it sends tank air to the unloader pistons on top of the head and these hold the intake disc valves open), and controls the dryer purge at the same time. When wet tank air pressure drops below the governor set-point it vents the air from the unloader...
