Not certain. I think its required after armor was installed on this series of trucks. Found a few pictures of armored M931's with this box on it.
The only reason I can think of is something entering cab and exploding batteries in the cab. I was surprised to learn that batteries are riding in...
Bought this kit from a fellow SS member (classifieds). It is a complete kit-new right down to all of the required nuts and bolts, all new cables and bus bars and new heavy duty mounting brackets to frame of truck. The door has a lock tab on it too so batteries will be safer. Instructions are...
Welcome from St Paul, MN. Your idea of buying your first truck from a private seller is a good idea. I bought my first MV from Scott in Blaine (MN). She is an M35A2 and is a great truck. This site and Scott helped me a great deal. It paid off with a good truck.fat lady sings

Put the batteries on a battery desulfator-you may be able to bring them back. 40 bucks for a 12 Volt desulfator (Tender). You could use it on other batteries to stretch their life. Money well spent.
This does not sound good. Its either a complete replacement or discover where the metal is coming from. If there is metal that far out on the axel spindle, and the bearings are fine, it seem that the CV joint might be the culprit.
