    repacking wheel bearings/hub

I've also encountered a pound or two of grease in this area in my deuce hubs before (multifuel deuces, but I don't think that matters). I can see smearing some in there to prevent rust, but I don't see why it would be helpful to pack a bunch of grease in that area.

MV Insurance in NJ .... grrrrrrr!!!!

RE: Re: MV Insurance in NJ .... grrrrrrr!!!! Good luck on your insurance! I don't know anything about how things work in NJ, but here in CA I have my 1986 HMMWV insured by 21st Century, who also insures my daily driver. The clerk said "no" at first because their books didn't show any Hummers...

Need HELP or advice on shipping vehicle!

Sarge: Congratulations on your Gama Goat, and I hope you like it a lot! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures someday. I guess it's too late now, but I moved my own Gama Goat (which I no longer have) on a roll-back wrecker once, and it did fit. KaiserM109: $2,800 for 500 miles sounds awfully...

New to site, maybe buying my first CUCV soon..

I haven't bought any vehicles from Ted, but he helped me with titling of vehicles that came out of Government Liquidation with messed-up paperwork. He seems like a good guy to me.

A funny thing happened on the way to....

I've never heard of those before, but now that I have I think it's thoroughly cool that you got one!

Option to buy AN/TRC-145 comm shelter

It's completely worthless. Why don't you just drop it off at my place in California, and I'll dispose of it for you. :D But seriously, I hope that you'll be able to find a military radio collector near you who will give the shelter and its contents a good home. If the shelter is still outfitted...

How much cranking is necessary for starting?

My first shop van would bleed down if it hadn't run for a while. It would take a similar amount of cranking after sitting for a day or more. One thing that helped a bit was to wait 30 seconds or so between turning on the master switch and hitting the starter button, so the in-tank pump could...

    Impact wrench and compressor

RE: Re: RE: Impact wrench and compressor I agree with others on getting the biggest and best air compressor you can afford. I'd stay away from the "oilless" ones. I have a 5HP Campbell-Hausfeld with a 26 gallon tank. It runs things like impact wrenches just fine, but has trouble keeping up with...

    M60 Wrecker questions

I haven't been up close to a 2.5-ton wrecker (mainly since there aren't too many of them to get up close to!), but they're not really all that much smaller than the 5-ton wreckers, are they? I could be wrong, but I would think that a 5-ton wrecker would be easier to find and cost less than a...

Need help in obtaining registration and parts in California

RE: Need help in obtaining registration and parts in Califor The frame rail number may or may not be the number on the SF97. I've seen both the serial numbers (from teh frame rail) and the registration numbers used. Sigh. If you need to move the truck but don't have time to take care of stuff...

Need help in obtaining registration and parts in California

RE: Need help in obtaining registration and parts in Califor The number on the frame rail is the factory VIN number. It doesn't follow the modern civilian bazillion-character alphanumeric standard. If your truck's dashboard data plate is original, that number should be on it, and there may also...

Need help in obtaining registration and parts in California

RE: Need help in obtaining registration and parts in Califor I'll happily burn him a CD of the tech manuals for free, but I'm too lazy to take it to the post office to mail it.

Need help in obtaining registration and parts in California

RE: Need help in obtaining registration and parts in Califor By the way: you definitely found the right board to hang out on to learn how to take care of your new toy! Have fun with it, and I hope you'll share pictures with us. Oh, you should also get your hands on all of the technical manuals...

Need help in obtaining registration and parts in California

RE: Need help in obtaining registration and parts in Califor The weight certificate is not required if it will be registered as a Historical Vehicle, but the DMV clerk will probably still tell you that it is. As I understand it, the DMV clerk will start entering your vehicle with a body type of...

    MEP-018A Genset. Swap?

I hope Kenny doesn't mind me hijacking his thread, but I have a similar pair of 10kW generators to get rid of over on the left coast! ;) http://www.nf6x.net/forsale/PU619/index.html Maybe somebody in Kansas would like to buy all four of our generators? rofl

    Question about AM1780.

If I'm not mistaken, they're the MW series from the General Connector division of WPI: http://www.wpi-interconnect.com/genconn.htm http://www.wpi-interconnect.com/GcCatalog/Power/MW.htm They also make military audio (i.e. handset) connectors, and some of their products are carried by this...

A (Hot, Sweaty) Day at Mark's Green Truck Ranch

Sea containers have been made in at least two different standard heights (8' and 8'6"? I don't remember off the top of my head). The M1022 is made for the shorter ones, and cannot be adjusted for the taller ones. My containers are the taller ones. So, even if my M1022 dollies were 100% complete...

A (Hot, Sweaty) Day at Mark's Green Truck Ranch

Yes, I'm planning to visit the MV boneyard! A friend of mine who's not on Steel Soldiers should be meeting us there, too. I'm just northwest of Lake Mathews. It's too bad there aren't GL sales at nearby March ARB any more. Or maybe it's good, because I have more trucks than money or time now! :)

A (Hot, Sweaty) Day at Mark's Green Truck Ranch

Well, if you come here within the next couple of weeks, take the wheels off the dollies and put the best 11 on my wrecker, then you can have the rest of the dolly remains and leftover wheels for free! rofl Heck, fix the axle seals on my deuce while you're at it, and I'll throw in a 1.5-ton...
