The Drott is actually a IH TD4 or therabouts. Drott Iron Works made the attachments that were installed on the base model machines. 99% of those were IH. Very interesting story.
Just wait, GL will send us all paperwork instructing us to turn in all our green trucks to the nearest post/base.
Had this discussion with Maccus one afternoon in the famous pole barn. We both agreed that they better call first instead of just showing up, the trucks will still be smoldering...
Personal experience with older gensets says that maybe a quick "flash" will cure the no power output. Find the two wires running to the field windings, should be about a 14 ga wire, trace them back to the regulator and determine polarity of each lead, one is POS, one is NEG. Jump battery power to...
Whether it is a 250 or a 475 has nothing to do with physical dimensions externally. They are all 855 cu in. engines. Same block, heads and manifoilds etc.
Pull the oil filter and cut it open. Look for metalic debris from a failed bearing. cut a strip of the filter paper out and wrap it in a shop towel, squeeze the oil out in a vise and you will be able to see any foreign material in the pleats.
Well, I am 6'1" and 380lbs. I drive the M37 with a little suck-it-in. Drove the M109m back 650 miles from Ft Riley KS, had a lot of room with a spring seat but the M35a2 is tight.
Go for it!. I would leave hp alone for now, easily turned up later if you still need{want} more. The 350 hp its at will suprise you compared to a 350 Cummins, not blowing a horn here, just that this thing will pull a lot harder than a Cummins of the same hp. Not a real market for A models...
Ok, First off. This i an A model, check the serial number tag above the governor housing. Should have either a DI or PC on here. with a build date of 1988, I would say DI. With out breaking down the arrangement I dont know for sure what pistons are in there. Most off highway engines are set up...
95% of 3406A models are not DI, but rather are PC. Precombustion chamber with glow plugs. A few late A's were DI or it was converted at overhaul. An easy way to tell between an A or a B is the fuel injection pump. An A has a rounded body pump mounted away from the front cover via a housing...
ok, I have limited info tonight. But here is what I do have. This is a 3406B, Direct injected, Jacket water aftercooled. 350 hp gross. advertised is 330 hp @1900 rpm. Hi idle limit @ 2300. I beleive this to be the front engine fora 621e/623e or 627e scraper. So i am going to assume it will need...
Just a note of caution to you. DO NOT ETHER A HOT ENGINE!!!!! I have had the fun of repairing many an engine that this was done too. Cracked heads, blown head gaskets and destroyed pistons that usually come with holes in the block if they run long enough. Ether is intended to raise compresion...
I just recovered a non-turbo M109 from FT Riley KS. Drove her home 650 miles. Buddy that went along said at times he couldnt tell the difference between the truck and the coal trains we were meeting as the road and track run parallel. They do put out a haze, i suspect the jet-stream and local...
I hear ya on the damages. The M109 I picked up at Ft Riley on Thurs had the radiator mounting bolts bent over and the hood bashed in by chains. Every truck in the yard had nearly the same damages.
RE: I
Andy speaks volumes of truth. Only run Cat fuel filters and keep your water seperator clean. HEUI injectors can be damaged by using filters of less than 2 micron ratings.Antoher tip to keeping your injectors healthy is never run her out fuel, never prefill your filters, always hand prime...
All Caterpillar spin -on fuel filters are rated 2 micron absolute. have to do some replumbing with a new filter base to use these. The cartridge filters are still 10 micron
