the first filter is a water seperator. plus it helps catch the brids and elephants, aka all the big stuff in the fuel. Caterpillar used a reusable brass screen up until a few yrs ago, Now all engines/machines anre equipped with a Parker/Racor type water seperator. These new ones are not washable...
Usually once a filter has plugged due to gelled fuel its a pretty fair bet it will continue to caue grief. Change em out or if your in a pinch, dump em out and fill em with straight powerserv or the like, this will melt the wax out. Another way to help is any filter that is exposed to the wind...
RE: Auto zone!!
I may be considered biased being a Cat dealer field mechanic, but. I know of some machines over 15 yrs old with their original batterys still goin strong. A fella at work has one in his car thats over 10 yrs old. The ones in my M37 are 8 yrs old.Very seldom do we have one brought...
there is a flywheel hosuing for a Cummins B model that will hook to a GM pattern. Delivery vans using a 4BT Cummins alot of time use GM automatics, Some Fords are around too, big bolck pattern.
RE: tranny fluid
Caterpillar still recomends engine oil in ALL of its functions (even the hydraulic systems) the same wt. as used in the engine.

RE: Re: RE: M35 engine help
Are you sure you are seeing oil and not "slobber" from excessive idling? Seen a few turbos changed for no good reason because of this. Would have to think the valve seals are gone if you're getting that much oil out the exhaust.
Just my 2 cents here. All injection line on nearly all diesel engines are the same length, tuned as some might refer to it. This is done to ensure proper timing. All be it a slight difference, a little can be alot for a diesel.
RE: turbo gallery
I have heated plugs and bolts up to get them out but have a candle or some plumbers flux around when you do. Get the item good and hot and them stick the candle on it or smear the flux on. As it cools it wicks the wax/flux in and they come right out. If you have to drill into...
Several years ago I found a set of gears for a cat 631 scraper laying out in the weeds at a customers yard. We beadblasted the gears up and put them to use in a water tanker. Diff ran 5000 hrs until a brg failed from no lube. We reused the gears. .Shined up like new. Just change the oil a bit...
RE: Re: RE: more....
the strnge dozer is a Cat built machine based on a 988 loader. Modified with a lock up torque convertor and set up to pull scraper unit. that is the scraper hitch you see sticking up. Clark/Michigan also built so very similar machine for Gov use. They had Cummins power...
the paperwork was from GL. As for where the trucks came from is easy too. All carried the markings of the local Nat. Gaurd unit here. the trucks were part of a scrap iron sale at Ellsworth AFB. P.S. my back hurts from the constant retching I still endure
