I heard back from David Doyle...he claims that these are rather rare and worthy of preservation. Since this one looks pretty complete (minus a genset?) it might be a good project. I could see this thing getting high marks at a convention if it's fully restored and shiny (on the inside of...
Coolness...
Looks like the "ERDLator" referenced in the standard catalog of US military vehicles 2nd edition book on pg 151. 1500 gals/hr. Looks complete too.
I will alert Mr. Doyle for a "rareness" estimate.
Thanks man! Even I was skeptical at first, but I'm very happy how they turned out. Mike (ODIron) makes a great wheel...I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to put big meats on a deuce. Great quality, good strength, decent price, and good looks.
Note also that these wheels can be...
I see how that would work...the cuts in the top will allow the bolt head to deform outward under torque, and the undercutting of the bottom will lessen contact area, providing a tight fit. I would imagine that dirt/oil/grease would be an issue though...could undermine the locking ability of the...
Excellent Chris! Looking good! What size are those? Are they XL or XZL?
Not sure if you saw mine, but they do look good in Tan:

(I think the truck looks better now that I have a Tan cargo cover as well).
I did a bit of research on this..heregoes:
I used GL-5 (MT1) rated lube (yellow-metal safe) in everything on the truck. 5 gallon pails at Costco are about $45 or so.
Remember that the MT1 rating is critical if using GL-5...if not there, it will eat up the yellow metal components (synchros) in...
RE: Re: RE: Winch swap
Coming from you gringeltaube, that is a big compliment! (for those who don't know, this guy is *the man* when it comes to wheels/tires/brakes, including creation of publishable-quality visual aids).
I should have taken pictures and put up an article when I did the swap...
You'll also need some smaller parts...PTO gasket, PTO studs (if you didn't get the ones off the original truck it was removed from. Length is critical here, so get the right ones), the small hinged door on the floor that holds the PTO handle (there is a knock-out on the floor where the handle...
Excellent...thanks for fighting for your (our) rights on this issue Paul! You are my hero.
As you move into the next phase of this (introducing legislation to accurately interpret the statues around exempt vehicles) please be careful with your wording and make sure that you are not causing...
Joe, that's almost exactly the set-up I was thinking of. My truck is an 06...pretty similar to your 08.
How much does your trailer weigh dry? What brand/make/model?
Agreed...I would have gone Duals on the trailer and kept the pin weight to about 3K. Maybe some air bags too.
He's my ramblings:
I have a F-350 DRW like that (mine is newer, 4x4, and has the 4.30 tow gears). I'm looking at getting a goose-neck trailer similar to this for towing my big toys...
