    Two questions regarding gear ratio's

A buddy of mine suggested 3.55's as a swap. But he did admit it would indeed mean a carrier swap. I'm a shade confused. Everyone I've spoken with has told me that if I use gears lower than 4.10's I will have to change the carrier. But if I install 4.10's I can use the carrier that the 4.56's...

    6.2 Cruising RPM?

Try using this link. It will allow you to use all sorts of variables. From gear ratios, to tire sizes, to the rpm you want to use, etc. Gear Ratio Calculator I've been playing with ratio's all day today. Let us know what you decided to do.

    bikini top

I actually saw one of those last weekend. Supposed to have been a 'factory' option for a few years. The roll bar, not the bikini top part. It was mounted all the way at the back, with the down angled legs facing the front. The roll bar was at the very rear of the bed. It looked like it...

    Two questions regarding gear ratio's

I'M not saying the NP205 does or does not have the 3.00:1 low gears. The link I posted said it. That's why I asked AND posted the link. ------ It's like the 'reversed' roll bar I saw in a Civvy mid eighties Blazer last weekend. I talked to the owner. He got it from his dad, who ORDERED...

    Two questions regarding gear ratio's

OK, I'm considering gear ratio's. First question is this. What is the gear ratio for the NP205 (low gear ratio). Is it 1.96:1 or is it the 3.00:1? Second question is this. All things being equal, in an M1028a3 (or the M1031), what would net me the best overall setup for running gears? The...

    12v or 24v??

This is one I can answer. Because my M1009 came to me as a 12v system. POORLY converted I might add - they ONLY swapped the started and two battery cables - not the other things that make a good 12v conversion work properly. Plus the county sheriff's department that had it hacked the wiring...

    HUGE KUDO'S to OD Iron

I hate to admit it, but my 'low battery' issue was because my P/S guy forgot to plug in the dual plug (black/red wires) on Alt 1 when he checked my P/S system. Hey, it happens. Along with all the suggestions here, and similar suggestions on another thread I started, I got it all worked out...

Everything was working great and then ...

MM, Actually the fix was just going back, removing the connections one at a time and then cleaning both the cable and the post. Then reconnecting and tightening everything back up. I have not even replaced the wires yet because it started raining on Memorial day and just about has not stopped...

    Be Jealous!

C_K, I guess the real question then is, if someone offered you say $15k -$20k for it, would you sell it? Because that's the true mark of a builder. You build it. Someone else with more money than brains or time pays you twice what you have in it. So, would you or would you not sell it if the...

Everything was working great and then ...

After following ALL the suggestions made (except the one of 'if it ain't broke...'), I now have everything 'in the green' battery/alternator wise. Thx folks. I'm going to replace all but one of my battery cables (two for the batteries - two to the nato slave plug). I replaced the one I'm not...

A visual cheat for your locking hubs

I painted mine with the red on the 'lock'. Kind of a 'caution you idiot, you are in 4x4'. And one of my buddies took a pix of one of the deuces with the lug nuts with RED stripes, so go figure when I'll get THAT pix. We did a parade on Memorial Day and he took a pix with his camera phone. IF...

A visual cheat for your locking hubs

I've seen the white paint. But when I saw it in red, it just jumped out at me. I guess that's why I posted it. Because it was different, being red. We have a lot of guys in our club with deuces/5 tons that put white stripes on all their lug nuts. That way a visual inspection will show...

Everything was working great and then ...

Actually, while everything was working great, my batteries had been run down when I took it in to my power steering guy. I thought I was having issues with the PS pump. Turns out the belt was about to break. So he fixed that. But in the process, he forgot to plug in one of the alternators...

A visual cheat for your locking hubs

OK, this one is not my idea. I must give cudos to the folks at Classic Mustangs here in Denver. They also sell M1009's, M1008's and M35's as well. So a tip of the hat to them for this cheat. I loved it. So I did it to mine. Hope you folks like this one. Steel Soldiers::Military Vehicles...

Everything was working great and then ...

In preparation for particpating in a parade tomorrow, I disconnected both batteries and put them both on the battery charger for about an hour each. I always remove BOTH cables from BOTH batteries before I ever start to charge either battery. Especially since I've put my M1009 BACK to 24...

    Stumped

If that does NOT solve the problem, consider adding an electric fuel pump, wired it into the fuse box to a connection that only works with the ignition on. The fuel pump on the 6.2's seem to be a weak point. I've added an electric fuel pump to two CUCV's and it resolved problems exactly like...

    where to find new starter?

If a rebuilt is OK, contact Mike at OD Iron. His rebuilt alternators that I bought work great. I'll probably purchase a starter to have a spare. Never hurts to have it sitting on the shelf, in case the starter fails.

CUCV alternators - I'm still confused

Thanks for 'reviving' this thread. I FINALLY have returned my M1009 to it's 24v configuration. All sorts of things started working properly again. Like the Gen 2 light NOW comes on (then goes off after it starts). Like my 24 volt gauge is NOW working and I KNOW I'm charging both batteries...

    WHY is my CUCV PINK?

The human eye has a hard time distinguishing the color red at a distance. A LOT of the desert trucks have a 'pinkish' tinge to them. Plus, the military has found that is it easier to go 'up' from tan than it is 'down' from green. So most of the vehicles these days are painted tan with a...

    HUGE KUDO'S to OD Iron

I've got both batteries out. They are both showing 'low charge' so they are currently being slow charged. BUT even with the 75 amp 'start' feature the sucker will barely turn over. I hooked a battery tester and it shows 'ok' until I hit the 'load button' and then it drops to about 10 volts which...
