Air filter modifications - minor work & $$$

First and foremost, living at 5280 ft altitude in Denver, we have a lot more cool/cold days than we have hot days. If I were still living in Houston, I would concur. But dang man, if I roll up into the mountains, during the winter - even if it's not snowing, having more hot air into my engine...

Air filter modifications - minor work & $$$

I had a chat with 101Coolcars (member name here) and to do four dyno pulls it runs around $150 - but he said he'd give me a discount because I'm and SS member. So, after doing that, I will report the results back here. The final step will probably been a new exhaust system. But I'll talk this...

Yet another M1009 w/ Elec. Problems

SPS, You know more about your truck than ANY mechanic will know. These guys don't have a clue if it's NOT 12v and NOT gasoline engine. With all the time you've got invested in this problem, I'd bet you a dollar that not only can YOU diagnose and fix the problem, you will be WAY AHEAD than...

Air filter modifications - minor work & $$$

hndrsonj, No. Due to the design of the stock air box, it won't flip. I TRIED THAT. And I find mine is much quieter. Mainly because now instead of a higher pitched whoosh, it gets a much healthier, deeper roar. Maybe a new dual exhaust, possibly 3 inch mandrel bent duals will be next. The guy...

Air filter modifications - minor work & $$$

Well, I finally got enough time and motivation to fab up this particular mod I've had rumbling around in my head for over a year. Unfortunately, I don't remember how much I paid for the two pieces of welding steel. I think something like $20 at LOWES. The first is a 24 x 24 piece of 22 gauge...

    NOS upholstery

OK, the front uppers are all sold. The rear seat upper turns out to be an M1008 seat upper (LONG SEAT). This is still available. $25

    Advice--Words of Wisdom?

"But dear, it's a hobby. It's not like I'm chasing women or doing drugs or something like that." And for less than $40 you and a couple of friends (perhaps a case of beer) and you will be good to go. Changing seals is easy. Brake pads are relatively easy. Even when you don't know what you...

Yet another M1009 w/ Elec. Problems

I'll call BS on this 'cannot be replaced' stuff. I've replaced BOTH a 12v AND a 24v solenoid. They are available. The 24v is more expensive, but they are available. I'd run from this guy, because he has no idea what he's doing or what he's talking about.

Gm725K10, Check to make sure that the transfer case has the REQUIRED support bracket. If it's missing and you do not replace it, you WILL end up with another brokend tailshaft. If you put that much unsupported weight at the rear of the tranny, it will work OK for a while, but in the long...

Yet another M1009 w/ Elec. Problems

If you are bound and determined to STAY with a 12v system, I've found this particular link to be very helpful. Very good description with pix and everything. Techniek - Ombouw 24V -> 12V - ChaosBoyz 4x4 Having said that, I've spent several months CORRECTING an incorrect 12v conversion...

Does your CUCV transfer case shifter have a light??

Yeah, I've owned several 4x4 Subs and they all had the shifter on the floor light up. And yes, my 4wd engaged light comes on. NOW it comes on at least. Before getting my electrical problems straightened out, it did not. Thx, that's what I thought.

Does your CUCV transfer case shifter have a light??

After having all sorts of electrical problems that have finally been resolved, I started looking for the light for the NP208 shifter. I can't find the light or any wiring. But given how screwed up the rest of the wiring appeared to be I thought I would ask. My M1031 did not have a light...

The electrical gods smiled on me today...

motormayhem, That's an excellent suggestion. I'll try it. My neck/back are killing me right now. I spent almost two hours laying on my back with my hands up under the dash in the last two days. It wasn't that bad, as I had removed the drivers seat to replace the lower portion of the seat...

The electrical gods smiled on me today...

I won a wiring harness for an M1009 on Ebay last week. With that in mind, I have been having all sorts of electrical problems. There was one hot wire that appeared to go from the battery to the light switch (more on that in a minute). And another hot wire connected to the connection on the...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

3dubs, Got your PM. I've sent contact info to my buddy in Houston. He will either call you or call me. Or both. And while I do agree it's 'easier' to let someone else fix it, it's not nearly as satisfying as when YOU fix it and hear that baby roar to life. OK, maybe roar might not be the...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

Testing the glow plugs is a must. BUT, do a visual first. Do your valve covers leak any? If they have, they may have covered the glow plug connectors with a fine film of oil. Mine were. Cleaned them all off (the front four - two on each side were heavily coated) and it made a huge difference...

    Two questions regarding gear ratio's

OK, thx for all the input. I've spoken with four independent sources. My buddy Stacey David. My Aamco tranny guy. My local differential guy. A local Chevy dealer. They all pretty much said the same thing. "It depends. We would have to look at YOUR differential. There are...

    NOS upholstery

TWO of the front seat uppers have been sold. TWO front seat uppers left. Plus the back seat upper. I'll leave this up until June 16th, and then I'm selling this stuff on Ebay. thx.

    NOS upholstery

OK, I've got four M1009 seat backs for the front and one seat back for the rear seat. They are brown, not red. I guess the green rug brought out the red in the pix. $25 each, plus s&h. My zip is 80231. Here's a pix of what I have. Just trying to 'clean things out' a little bit and thought...

    gears or trans swap

I saw the M1028 he put the NV4500 with 35's on it. It WAS slick. I loved his mandrel bent exhaust system. Plus what a nice touch it was with a 'pineapple grenade' as the shifter for his NV4500 standard tranny. Plus his shop is great. It's really clean. Everything is organized. He has a slick...
