Are there any non-specific structural differences between the 5-ton tractors and 5-ton wreckers out there, in the same series? For instance, if you had a M52 tractor, and you wanted to convert it to a M62 wrecker, would all you have to do is remove the 5-th wheel, drop on a wrecker bed/crane...
Tried accessing LOGSA, but apparently it's for the King's men only now. I need a soft copy (.pdf) of the radio installation manual, for the VRC-12 series (RT-524/R-442/RT-246/etc) for the CUCV series of trucks. Any help is appreciated.
Came north up Rt. 17 in Fredericksburg, VA yesterday coming back from Richmond (had to drop off builder77's new deuce fuel tank to him). Passed by a private auction company on the oradside that had two M135/M211 trucks parked right up near the road awaiting their fate. The auction house sells...
We all know the 318cid of the Dodge M880 series is a gas guzzler, a result of 1970s technology, but also of fulltime 4wd, locking hubs etc. Most owners of M880s get 12mpg on a REALLY good day, perhaps as low as 8 mpg on a bad day.
Was interested to hear any ideas you all have for increasing...

Anyone here upgraded to Gama Goat taillights for safety reasons, over the standard blackout light style lights? Just wanna see pics of the completed conversions, and hear the reasons why folks did that mod.
Do you really think it's worth the extra $$$ to change to the Gama Goat taillights, or...
When jdobyns was over here last Friday, he got a good look at the work that still needs to be done on the -725 before it can be restored. One of the many things left were a few holes that had been drilled to hold up a ladder rack on the passenger side. These two holes were just to the right of...
Some of you must feel that I am a rep of Coleman's Surplus or something, with all the trips I make there, and all the pictures I take. Well, I'm not, but I DO like cruising the yard. What's left of it, anyways. There are some interesting things there, and as long as ya'll want me to keep...
jdobyns and myself stopped at Colemans PA for a little junkyard crawling the other day. Found a few towbars that we thought were medium towbars, and we jumped for joy! But upon looking at them, there were a few things not right. Same basic size and weight of a non-entended medium towbar, same...
These are going to go in the For Sale section in the classified shortly. Picked these up at Colemans outta the yard. VERY heavy. I have a size 12 boot, so pic gives a comparison of the size.
Here's one for all of us. Just putting 2 and 2 together and making a question out of a couple facts:
1. It is hard for guys like us to find surplus towbars. They aren't rare, by any stretch of the imagination, but uncommon. When found, they are relatively expensive for us, running $200 up to...
Okay, just planning for the future, my MV is nowhere near ready to paint. But I am curious, and want to get squared away for later.
I understand that newer MV ambulances such as the M886 and the M1008-series ambulance have Red Cross decals that are about 3x3 feet in size. However, the older...
This was the tractor based on the M41 Walker Bulldog tank chassis that was used to tow the Skysweeper AA cannon back in the 1950s. Most served in Germany or Japan in the post-WWII theatre of ops. Very few survive, and my efforts to find any information on them has since been fruitless, except...
Does anyone have a detailed list or pictures of the Basic Issue Items for standard military 5-ton wreckers, including the M62, M543, M816, etc.? Just curious to know all the hardware that should be standard issue with said wreckers.
Not mine - these are hard to find turrets, I saw the ad on the MV webring, I don't know where these are, but I emailed the guy to send me details. Would be a shame to see these cut up for scrap metal. I don't know the guy personally, so don't PM me, but his contact email is below.

I have had zero luck in my area (22630) finding a source for beadblasting media, or black beauty for sandblasting work. I called all the Yellow Page listed places that do sandblasting, and they only perform the service, they don't sell products. Nor will they say they get theirs. The hardware...
