My ignition switch is giving me grief. It sticks coming out of lock like I have the wrong key but if I wiggle/jiggle it will turn on eventually and then turn to start with no sticking. Anyone have had this problem, it seems to be getting worse. Could it be the lock cylinder or the locking pin...
All of the felt/channel is worn out in the tailgate in mine. It squeaks and rattles as I roll it up and down. Could use another lube job. It was all apart in the back of the truck when I got it. Since you can't drive these trucks with the back window down without a truck full of exhaust fumes...
Is something in the Track? Will it crank out with the tailgate down? I have taken mine apart, cleaned and lubed it to make it work better. My inside handle was messed up too. If something holds your tailgate from latching, the glass will not roll up all the way. The key is not to force anything...
One thing thats misleading things about the advertised mpg gains is that the propane is not figured in. So on a m1009 that gets about 20mpg on the freeway you have to make a 3 mpg increase the way they figure it before you start saving anything. I hope Mike K. finds its worthwhile.
I could be wrong about this but I don't think adding propane for a more complete burn is going to add too much heat. It might be lower because you are using less diesel per mile. What I mean is, if you are going down the road making 100hp with propane added, I think your temps could be lower...
You can find the np208 behind the sm465 also. Probably the safest way to get them is together, that way you don't have to worry about spline count and adapters matching. Also if you get a later model like 1985 it should have the hyd clutch, but it will probably have the 208.
I too would be interested in propane. It would seem to be best used with a turbo, because it would be best with more air, but with a NA 6.2, I don't see much more power but possibly better fuel mileage. Better more complete burning of the diesel, you might be able to turn down the fuel. Also...
Check the vacuum hose where it connects at the transmission. If it got pulled off when you were under there with the starter, the transmission won't shift.
I'd look into the warranty. Not just the battery but the damage it caused. May be a dead end but I'd check especially if I had acid damage to the truck.
When you raise your truck it adds wind resistance. One of the ways the new car manufacturers increase MPG is limit the air flowing under the vehicle. Air drags going under more than going over or around so the higher you get the more air you push. Plus the faster you go the more energy it takes...
The thing that will affect your mileage more than anything else is the kind of driving you do. I drive my M1009 to work every day but I only go 4 miles and don't go over 35mph. If I drove the M1008 I think my mileage would be similar. If you do alot of freeway driving and don't need the hauling...
The bigger tires will lower that 4.56 ratio as opposed to the stock tires but when you raise the truck to make them fit your mileage suffers. That being said the more fender trimming you do to keep the truck lower the better the mileage should be. I have the 38" tires but haven't decided to put...
I personally don't replace anything unless its bad and bad is anything less than perfect as far as bearings go. Repacking is good. Check your brakes. If your rotor is marginal its a good time to resurface or replace and I would do it if you need new pads so you have all new. Also check to see if...
I have a M1028 that I use around my small farm. It has the brackets and rail for the shelter and a rack that protects the back window. I was thinking about adding the sideboards and seats but some mods are required to keep it all. Curious if anyone has both on their truck?
We don't know the good doctor's history, but even if he has no record, he undoubtedly is relieved you let him off the hook so easily. Luckily you weren't next to your truck when he came by. I would say the good doctor can be counted on to run again the next time he hits something, it worked so...
