Dave, maybe you should just mention what you didn't fix on yours?

That one looks nice, in the photo at least. And it does make me wonder what the heck they put in the fuel tanks in Texarkana. Thankfully, my prefilter didn't look nearly as bad as yours, but the inside of the tank was a different story. Picking off paint flakes is therapeutic, but not overly...

It's your choice, General Hood, but I've noticed that my SEE digs ditches just fine with somewhat crappy paint. Alright, I'm envious. I wish I could make mine look as good as it works, but if/when it gets help in the paint department, it'll be with a push broom and floor mop. Unless, of course...

Nice! Are you ever going to be able to sink that bucket into rocky dirt now?

Thankfully nowhere near as fuzzy as that one. Besides, I have almost all the bugs worked out of it now.

    SEE Oil change hints

Never did manage to find anything through NAPA, and we tried pretty hard. I did find one source where the Mann filter was (as I recall) about $15, and I was skeptical until it arrived. But, it was the real thing. Either way, we should support places like EI, I think. We'd be screwed without them.

Oh, getting the front fan out isn't that bad...unless it's hot out. But it sure wasn't the 2-hour (including removing the one from the parts SEE) 4-bolt job I had expected it to be. If changing out the rear fluid anyway, just disconnect the hydraulic lines from the cooler to get access. After...

I shouldn't whine about the heat, even if it's near or record high for here, when looking at what you guys farther east have to deal with. Anyway two of mine came from Texarkana, also several months apart, and neither has any rodent damage that I know of. Not sure which would be worse for the...

Using my SEE for real work

Here's the difference between the old and the "new" fan. The latter has a drain, and the motor is larger. And I did make sure it runs before even removing it from the parts SEE. In retrospect, it might've been faster to swap in the entire left rear "fender assembly". It would've been costly...

Using my SEE for real work

Hey, just happened to come in after finally getting that darn fan out. Barely. Two of the four nuts became un-captive. Luckily it was the rear ones, so I could kind of reach around, but it still took about four hours. And I did start spraying them down yesterday. To make it even more...

Using my SEE for real work

Thanks for the reply! Didn't look like those nuts were captive, which is why I wasn't looking forward to that approach. The only other way that front fan may come out is if I move the hard return line out of the way. Optimistically loosened the fitting on top, and sure enough, the fluid wants...

Using my SEE for real work

Alright, yesterday I pulled what appears to be a relatively new fan off the parts SEE, to replace the dead front one on the SEE I use. It happened to be the rear one I pulled, and it came off with ease. The problem is getting the dead front one off. Easiest would be to move the hose reel out of...

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

Yeah, your steel option is definitely nicer. I usually put a piece of cardboard over the instrument panel to keep the sun from bleaching the gauges even more, from the back side. On the other hand, it was very easy to disconnect the irritating 4WD indicator light with no dash pad whatsoever.

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

My M1008 had the "steel option" when I got it, some 15 years ago, and still does. It's a working vehicle, so it doesn't bother me. Made it easy to add a switch for the dump bed, too, which it had in its first incarnation. The bed is since removed, and the frame shortened to make it a tug. Most...

Ouch. Wonder if that's negotiable? At least a little bit.

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

Since it's still run by the same guy, I'd think you'll get good service, too.

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

It was for a '76 GMC, so in that sense they should be quite comparable in cost. What that cost was, I haven't a clue. I must have asked, and may have included it in the story, but definitely can't remember that anymore. I do recall that the price was lower than I had expected, after seeing all...

Need new dashpad. Which brand has held up best?

Well, be sure to tell Irwin "Hi". Not that I think he'll remember me as I was there in the late 80s, possibly early 90s.

Where was I? Well, I try not to ask too much from my brain cell. Besides, I wanted to find out if your Dash Design was any good (just kidding).
