    California High Desert "Rally"

I'm working feverishly to get my deuce back together, but there's still a chance it won't be done... So close, but I keep taking more stuff apart. aua I decided to replace the last two rubber coolant hoses - the ones that go to the heated intake manifold - so I have the two coolant manifold...

    NOOOOOO!!!!......guess I need some t-case parts

I have a Wright Tools 30" breaker bar... It demands respect, stuck fasteners fear it's awesome power. It shears off anything it can't loosen.

Road Trip TX -> North, SEPT 29 - OCT 14

I think if it were me, I would not try to replace the leaking exhaust manifold gasket while on the road. What if a stud breaks? I would want to do that kind of work right here in my shop. Plus you'll waste a day and wreck your back. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only...

    found a v17a/mtq........how rare?

Fantastic! How bad is that rust? Looks like mostly just surface rust... Any body rot / cancer? The body is the important thing... cabs, fenders, or anything else can be replaced. Good save. I love seeing rare trucks get purchased by collectors. Regards, Jon

    turbo oil return line

Why, Will? What makes your silicone hose better than mine? It's been on there for a year and a half. Surely oil will not dissolve the silicone, and there's no pressure or mechanical stress there... Explicar por favor.

Help, my hose hangs down too low

It's 1-1/4" I.D. Comes in 3' lengths at NAPA, which is just right.... Then you'll have a dangler like me and maddawg!

    hot hubs

Fascinating. I went through the same thing with one of my bearings... despite perfect bearing and race, it stayed hotter than the rest. Re-checked adjustment, tried looser and tighter... all the same. So I decided to "run it". It did not get worse, it just ran consistently hot. I checked...

    turbo oil return line

NAPA also has silicone hose.... Overkill perhaps but I know I'll never have to replace it. When I told them the hose was for a turbo oil drain line it's what they recommended to stand up to the heat, though I'm sure the regular hose will last for years. Jon

    Deuce Transfer case case???

Since the shoes aren't worn, just follow the adjustment procedure in the TM. It's easy and will make it work great. There are several adjustment points and they are checked one at a time in sequence with feeler gages. There's a good chance you've lost some parts down there, too... There's...

    Help with rear axle seals.

I don't recognize that axle at all... Is it a Rockwell? What are the modifications? Looks like disc brakes, too? I do recognize the flipped hub though, and it's obvious that either your outer seal or the cork keyway seal has failed which has allowed gear oil to mix with the hub grease...

    Deuce Transfer case case???

It's common / normal for the t-case to be noisy... Out of the 6 I've encountered, I have yet to hear a quiet one! Mine has a distinctive whine to it, especially when decelerating. Are you certain it has gotten louder lately, or did you simply not hear it before? I'd certainly check / change...

    towing a 5 ton

Where were all these flat-towing nay-sayers when I was posting questions about recovering my V-18A/MTQ with my deuce? 8) I towed it 180 miles on the freeway, and it handled like a dream. I had towing lights and big safety chains. But if the 5-ton is a lot heavier I wouldn't know how it would...

    Beginning with motorvation

yes Yes YES!!! That's MY kind of project... LOVE those Screamin' Jimmies! I've got a 6-71N in my 5 ton tractor... it's a tight fit lengthwise, I have a doghouse cover in the cab. You won't have trouble there being 2 less cylinders long but width will be an issue... you'll probably have to...
