if you want your speedo to indicate correctly with hemtt tires you need the hemtt speedo adapter.
if you want your deuce with 1100's to read right then use a 5 ton adapter.
I got one from a member on here. otherwise I'd start calling the dealers. it made my speedo work perfectly, it just doesn't go high enough anymore. I can do 70 with the big tires.
if it were an A3 you'd also get the 3 point seat belts and would have had an insulated floor and no provision for a clutch pedal. very cool anyhow.

all the A3's came with the plate and it's a great way to stiffen up the cab of any truck. with or without the ring. it should be about 100 rivets and yes you can drill them out.
what does your egt do when you hit max speed? it it goes down then you are not getting enough fuel. I would go thru the TMs and make sure the gov is set correctly.
that plate in your last pic is std. my truck came with it and most I have seen have that one.
there is a vid on youtube of firing a 50 cal off a deuce. when I find the link I'll post it.
be very careful taking it back. you might have gotten lucky driving it home to not torch a bearing running it dry like that but going back you may not be so lucky.
you can put cork or permaseal in the keyway, either is fine as long as it seals up.
