    Tow bar and a Deuce??

Be sure to connect the towbar adapters as shown below. There have been pics in some publications showing them installed upside down... You will break your towbar - Just ask Bjorn! Jon

    Hood Vibration Dampeners

Hi Group, The rubber strips along the front edge of my hood, where it touches the top of the grille, were dried up and crumbly. I couldn't find these parts in the surplus channels or through 'full service' dealers such as Memphis, so I made my own. It took me a while to think of this... Where...

    master cylinder without vent line?

Here's the one I'm using. It's from an MV, but we don't know what since it has no part number or NSN on it, and came in with a load of misc. surplus at Walker's. The cap is vented to the top of the bellows by the notch in the cap's threads. The metal tag on the side says to use DOT 3 or 4...

    Holland to Driptroit move needed

I assume "Driptroit" is Detroit? I can't figure out what that means. I Googled it and you are the first hit... :?: Jon

    Drain Air Tanks Daily

It's also normal for one tank to have moisture in it, and the other to be fairly dry... The tank with the line from the compressor connected to it is called the "wet tank" and will have the most moisture, because hot air from the compressor condenses there most... also all condensate from the...

    found a v17a/mtq........how rare?

Awesome! Good score. Is it complete with all the 'stuff'? The derrick poles? The way they block the driver's door when stowed probably makes them the first part of the truck that gets canned... Jon

I have 1 too many trailers

Don't worry, GL will send you a certified letter demanding you file an EUC, then they'll tell you the trailer must be shredded.

    Progress?

Wow, that's a remarkable difference visually... Not to mention all the mechanical systems you have gone through! What's the situation with the cranetruck, and it's rod-knocking motor? Have you dropped the pan yet? I may have missed a thread on it while I was recovering from MV burnout... Jon

    Custom oil pan on LDT-465

All the manuals for the Multifuel engines (troubleshooting, overhaul, parts) are here on Steel Soldiers in pdf format... just click on "Technical Manuals" from the menu on the left. I'd look up the numbers you need, but I'm writing this from my cell phone's browser. It's pretty obvious...

Transfer case vibrations... and metal in the trans fluid...

The transfer shift levers do tend to bounce around, from what I've seen. I noticed that most of the slop was in the linkage, and due to the fact that the linkage used bolts instead of pins... A 1/2" bolt might mike out at around .485", not .500". That slop adds up with the number of joints in...

    Headphones recommendations while driving Deuce

There's our 'out' right there. I knew it had to be there, as they can't force you to damage your hearing. I wear a Peltor Tactical 7 electronic attenuating headset - same one I use when shooting - and it's very nice, but I'm really interested in this VIC-1 setup... Jon

    deuce running cold?

All the tales of trucks running cold leave me puzzled... Once moving down the road, mine has always come right up to 180, summer or winter, and has never gone higher even when heavily loaded. :?: Jon

    snake in my truck!

rofl :funny: Cool snake, glad you didn't put a second hole in your fender! Here's an excellent article on rodent control. http://www.bugspray.com/article/rats.html The parent site is good, too... it has info on controlling every pest except people. http://www.bugspray.com When I lived at...

Air governor under hood driving me CRAZY

Sounds like the unloader is stuck... the small line from the governor to the compressor connects to the unloader on the compressor's head (or maybe it's on the side? I can't remember). The unloader isn't allowing the governor to shut the compressor off. Probably just needs to be cleaned. Jon

    Bottom fell out!

Yeah, but I can hardly blame 'em... because of the baffles in the tank it's difficult to get lost parts out unless the tank is removed from the truck. I suppose you could go 'fishing' with a magnet... My old rusty tank also had lots of old pump parts rolling around inside... Jon

    Bottom fell out!

:ditto: Yup... your pump looks good. Those parts are from previously failed and replaced pumps.

M35 Cab Hardtop vs. GMA insulated soft top

Why so short? What's the failure mode, mildew / rot from moisture or sun damage? I'm concerned that the desert sun here will destroy canvas quickly, but after a year mine still looks good. I have canvak, but I'm interested in any canvas preservation tips. When mine starts to tear, I'll sew...

    Proper Oil Pressure Range Question...

TM 9-8023-1 (gas engine and clutch overhaul manual) says to put a mechanical gauge in place of the electric gauge sender. With the oil at the proper level, the engine at operating temperature, and running at normal speed (3,400 rpm) the pressure should be 45-50 psi. That's detailed enough for...
