Emergency! Road Trip - Transfer Case Leak/Hot

A good gear box, when working, can go over 200 F. A tough guy, can usually only hold his hand on the box up to 150F. Even then, you have to grit you teeth to hold it there. If it has that much oil in it - No Sparklies (metal flakes) in the lube, the in & output drivelines are good (no slop side...

Found what looks like a M135 on side of road

There used to be a lot of M211's up here. They all had a standard bed. The only time you saw a bed with the "cut out" was when it had singles. My '51's have the little cab windows. So often, people just took those trucks out and BEAT them to death. The hood and the roof look real nice. Up here...

Picking up an m108 wrecker this week

RE: got it home There is a whole lot of truck there to work with. Seems there are a lot of Folks that don't respect winch line - probably because they have never had to buy any of it. Lee in Alaska

    Will this work?

Get a picture of the mounts on the 135/211. They are not bad to make out of 1/2"x6". I have made them. They do use a shouldered bolt for mounting into the ends of the winch. Again, you can make them, if you don't have them. There are two 1/2" x2"x6" spacers, at one end of the two mounting...

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

RE: Re: Forty Below Zero Deuce Simplicity & an engine pre-luber, were both mentioned above. Any time your in serious cold weather, a 20# propane bottle & a weed burner (some call them a tiger torch), should be part of your Survival Kit. That & a joint of 6" stove pipe with a 90 degree elbow...

    M37 Distributor and coil

Not offhand. In the old days, it would have been simple, but now, you would probably have to buy the whole gasket set to get one. I'll look tomorrow in some old sets/left-overs, in the shop. Lee in Alaska

Water/oil intrusion source on a Cummins 5 ton part3 pics

Usually, on an oil cooler leak, oil goes into the coolant, and not the reverse. Because the oil is of a higher pressure. Lee in Alaska

Winch Disaster! Three Donkeyss hard at Work!

1st: There needs to be an operator inside the vehicle at all times. One that is thouroughly familiar with the controls. Then somebody needs to be outside, giving the operator directions. When your using the winch, things are seldom, if ever, lined up! The outside observer needs to keep an eye...

    Someone save this 53 GMC

RE: water pump The engine is a 302 cu in. GMC. Great engine. All parts are availiable. The water pump is re-buildable, but not for the above price. Lee in Alaska

    Winch Operation

If when it is "free spooling", pulling out the line, can someone keep pressure on the handle & re-engage the drum? Does the handle move at all? It may take as much as a half turn of the drum, before the jaw clutch engages. There is a detent, on that handle. Lee in Alaska

dropping front drive shaft for a road trip.

The M211 had spragues. I'm familiar with it & not the above. BUT - if they operate the same way...... The way the 211 worked is that the front axle only started driving, when the rear axles started going faster, then the front axle was going! Then & only then, did the spragues lock in. My...

    WWII 8X8

Those Guys, in the truck, look just a little too comfortable, for as rough as that hill climb has to be. How is that front suspension supposed to work? Does it really drive? Front axle spacing, doesn't seem to fit the chasie. Looks like the front tires are outside the body, some too. Looks too...

    air system

You'll also want to check the truck for air leaks. Does it hold air overnight? It should. Often, on these trucks, there has been considerable "deferred maintainance". The whole system has been run down. The trucks were built tough, but they are not "fool proof"! Lee in Alaska

    brake lites

RE: Re: RE: brake lites I often try to replace the flat washer with a "star" lock washer. They bite into the base metal - even through paint. A dab of the dialectric grease should be standard procedure! Lee in ALaska
