I have been using 25% unleaded 87 octane gasoline and 75% used motor oil (and transmission fluid, gear oil, compressor oil, Marvel Mystery Oil, ANY oil I can find), all mixed together then filtered through a 5 micron sock filter before it goes into the fuel tank. Mixing the gas and oil before...
RE: Tire pressure
A truly wise and helpful retired soldier who has forgotten more tricks than I have learned showed me the easy way! I have learned something and will attempt to retain and pass it on, THANKS!!
There is going to be a big WWII mock battle and general Military History display this Saturday (18 October) at Camp Swift (between Bastrop and Elgin on 95). I will be out there with my Deuce on display along with 40 or so other MV's including 2 Shermans and some artillery pieces. Come on out! If...
That SF agent just didn't know HOW to do it, I had the same trouble here, fortunately there are dozzens of SF agents in Austin. The pretty, young Hispanic lady who wrote my policy asked me to describe the truck and as I was trying to put it in "girl terms" she said "like a Deuce?", turns out she...
State Farm insured mine for $47 for six months, but it is registered "Texas Former Military" which means limited use, however there is no stated mileage limit.
By the way: Where in South Texas are you? I am in Austin
Here is my first one, I just went to Kinko's and bought the magnet sign material and stuck a bumper sticker on it, now I can put it on any metal surface.
I bought some of those red LEDs off eBay the other day, I can't wait to try them out on the Deuce. I think you should still be able to see them light up in daylight if they were going to, I bet they require full 24v. UNK which part number 12v bulb is required.
I took the solenoid apart, cleaned it and added another spring to get the thingie up to make contact and stop air flow. Now it wont do anything! I read voltage at the solenoid and am only getting 13v. The horn button is the new style sealed unit so it's not a corrosion/contact problem (or is...
Everything on a Deuce is simple, BIG and simple. Spend some time in and under one and you will be suprised how simple it really is. I had some shade tree mechanic experience but, like you, never had owned a diesel or a 6x6 (I had a 4x4 once but it was junk and I never used the front axel), the...
For some reason my horn isn't the "squealer" that I normaly associate with a Deuce, I think the Army may have swapped in another unit, looks like a squealer but sounds like a truck. I will dissassemble the solenoid and see what I find in there, then likely replace it anyway. After I take it...
RE: Horn stuck ON!
I disconnected the two wires from the solenoid and fired the truck up, as soon as the air pressure got high enough the horn started blowing.
I took the Deuce over to a buddy's house today for some seat time and while he was checking it out he decided to hit the horn, and that is when it decided to stick ON. I ran around and dumped the air tanks to shut it off. After some troubleshooting I determined the solenoid is stuck. I capped...
That photo I posted above is from a GL auction, those Optimas were in a Deuce coming out of service, so they were at least in limited use by the military.
I was going to mount one in my Deuce but the holes were not already there and I can't make myself mod the truck so I am saving the kit for my next one. I have a Rubber Ducky I was going to put in it for parades and display, and build a live AR-15A2 to ride along side the duckie where I could. I...
