Lots of aircraft get transported on trucks to rebuild facilities when they can't fly them there for whatever reason (moderate damage, etc). I see F-18s going down I-10 all the time when I drive out toward AZ/CA. Cheers
Maybe your alternate personality is sneaking in and changing it before you post Tim... :) I agree, spaced out posts are SO much easier to read. The run-on ones I tend to get lost in the middle of and just go to the next topic. Cheers
I was only getting around 3.9mpg hauling Agazza's M146 out to Arizona, but then the 146 was completely loaded and has the aerodynamics of a barn, and I was battling those ferocious West Texas winds nose-on much of the way. Hauling the unladen M172 I got around 5.8mpg.
Godspeed, we'll look...
Thanks Rob. Both my 931's flash all the time, I thought the control heads were bad (they seem to die rather easily). I'll have a wander through those plugs now.
Cheers
For your homework assignment, check out the names Randy Cunningham, Steve Ritchie, and Robin Olds in regard to dogfighting the F-4, and Dick "Belly" Bellinger in the F-8.
A good introductory book is "...And Kill Migs" by Lou Drendel. [thumbzup]
Back to the SR-71 - I was lucky enough to see one...
I can't argue with the cold being a trigger - mine popped today as I was prepping a 931 for a recovery Friday. It was cold (by Texas standards) last night. It was fine when I ran the truck on Saturday.
Cheers
What a lovely, and lovingly written, obituary.
He was a fine fellow, and a pleasure to talk to, albeit always remotely in my case. I am sorry I never met him in person. I am grateful we got to share a little bit of his life, he will be long remembered.
Here are Captain America and Captain America II, (pic 1 and 2 are the same machine) was either of these yours? All are reportedly from 1971, the info in the captions is what was associated with them on the internet.
Cheers
Looks like a really cool restoration, I'm sure others would join me in liking to see the progress. [thumbzup]
Just FYI, I didn't realize you had text at first, it seems to be dark grey and doesn't show up on the OD background at all, unless highlighted!
Cheers
How about this marking?
This is on an M870 trailer belonging to 1st CEB on Camp Pendleton. The neck is marked the same way, except the numbers were under the lettering. There were four trailers marked this way, the only tactical vehicles I have ever seen marked like that.
When the site...
If there is anything consistent about Marine markings, it is inconsistency!
They seem to like sandy/dusty places. My older boy did a tour in Afghanistan with 1CEB last year, his company is on a float now (13th MEU), which has ended up in the Persian Gulf region last I heard from him. He is...
We can get you infected with the OD disease pretty quick. At one time I lived in Pflugerville and had no military vehicles. Then along came the Unimog, and it just snowballed from there...
Welcome aboard!
Cheers
Nice job, and those tires look good.
I am in the process of converting one of these kits to represent one of my M931's at moment, and another with a resin cab to be my M813.
I admit to really liking miniatures of vehicles (as well as the real thing). Those Roco/Herpa HO scale models are...
