When to change water pump backing plate

Other than physical damage like rust pitting near the sealing surfaces or gouging if your impeller was hitting it, there is really no reason to change it at all. You're talking the large 5/16" thick plate that goes between the pump and the end of the head right? Just change the o-rings on the...

another 002A DC Voltage regulator question

I'm leaning towards an issue with the DC VR as it warms up. 33VDC is getting a little too high for your batteries to be happy, they want it more in the 28V range maybe 29 tops.

    803A Hard to start

If your fuel solenoid is pulling in correctly when you attempt to crank, and the linkage is moving freely to the right , next thing I would do is crack the lines on top of the 4 metering pumps, crank from S1 ( not the dead crank switch ) and see if you are getting little spurts of fuel out of...

Ok, was just about to send image, but you got it.

    MEP-003A

It's possible but not very likely. Start by confirming free and proper movement of the Governor linkage. Then confirm fuel is spurting from the injector lines while cranking with them loose, then we'll go from there. When you reinstalled the delivery valve assembly, was the "Spacer" still intact...

    MEP-802a cold weather starting

What is the general consensus on the diesel fired coolant heaters? I have a nice 803 with what looks to be a brand new heater in it. Here in the North East, engine coolant heating isn't really necessary. I've started liquid cooled's down into the -5F with no issues and it rarely gets much colder...

    MEP-802a “non runner”

It's 4 bolts holding gen to trailer. 3/4" head and nut. ( unless it's been "rigged" by someone ) You'll be fine! I've hauled several of these home at over 350 miles one way with zero problems other than dragging the trailer's light plug down the highway once, when it came out of the holder...

    MEP-003A

Using 2 people, heat glow plugs for 25 seconds, then 1 person try to start it, the other see if you can push the throttle lever and linkage upward, if it's not lifting up all the way. If it starts, let it run a bit and warm up. Then shut down and try to restart and watch if the linkage is...

By fuel valve do you mean the linkage doesn't lift upwards when the solenoid pulls in?

    MEP-003A

After you bleed the filters and lines up to the IP by running the pumps, if you want to bleed the injector lines themselves, the best way is to loosen all 4 lines at the injectors and crank the motor for 20-30 seconds. You should start to see a little bit of fuel spurting from each line. At...

    MEP-003A

No, Moving the switch to start / run does NOT activate the fuel solenoid. The solenoid will not pull in until you turn the switch to the CRANK position. Once you release the switch from cranking ( if it didn't start ) the solenoid will also stay pulled in for a period of time before it releases.

    MEP-802a “non runner”

Bring a set of magnetic trailer lights and zip ties. That trailer is aluminum but the 2 main rails sticking out the back are steel. Perfect for magnet lights. Use zip ties to secure the wires incase a light pops off over a severe bump and to keep the wires in place near the lunette. Also bring...

Purpose of Synchronizing transfer on MEP-803a generator trailer

Yet all the more reason not to do it.... reasons most of us would have never thought of!

    MEP-802 fuel lines

To make life easy, use a Dremel tool and a small cut-off wheel to slit the crimp collar lengthwise then just pry it open with a screwdriver. While you're in there take a good look at the small return line running from the end of the fuel rail up to each injector then back down near the fuel...

Purpose of Synchronizing transfer on MEP-803a generator trailer

Yup, that's one of the videos I was talking about. It will physically work, but the machines will fight each other a bit due to slight differences in output voltage and frequency. No idea if long term operation will cause any damage to the regulators or any other components. There's another...

Purpose of Synchronizing transfer on MEP-803a generator trailer

Neither of those small 5+10 Kw synchronizers allow you to parallel 2 machines, just synchronize the frequency then shift the load from one machine to the other. You can not have both machines on-line together. The small machines are different than the larger ones which are designed to be...

MEP 002a Not producing Electricity, I am looking for someone who is familiar with the 002a to work on it.

Hi Chris, When you tested the exciter stator you got an open circuit at the terminal block. You got the same result when you disconnected the wires and retested. You will not get any readings by trying to probe the coils because of the coating on the wires. Maybe try back probing the ring...

    Mep 802a vibration issue

Anything is better than nothing! The more give the better up to a point, but regardless, the entire 800 lbs will be sitting on about 200 square inches of frame rail, so maybe 4-5 PSI, so even the open hole anti fatigue mat should be fine.

MEP-002a Injection pump disassembly / repair

Good work! Glad you were successful! You should have a very dependable machine from here on out! One last word of wisdom.... If you expect the machine to sit for any extended period, read some of the posts here about the quality ( or lack there of...) with today's low sulfur diesel / HHO. To...
