M1009 Won't Start Suddenly and Melted Battery Post

It makes perfect sense if you somehow shorted a wire and blew a fuse. It's possible. Check all the fuses.

Do you want me to mail it to you?

    Paint Woes / price check

Most of the CUCV's I painted were never painted before. The rust was under the factory paint. The ones that were painted were touched up with brushes and had thick paint on them. The ones that were overall painted were heavily coated and it looked like they ran them tru a truck paint wash...

    M1010 A/C Compressor

I am no electrician. I am in the house for the evening. The best thing I have is a Fluke multi meter. It is out in my garage. I know how to check voltage and ohm things. That's about it. I use a test light and a power probe when I work on my vehicles. I don't even know what a diode setting is...

    M1010 A/C Compressor

There you have it. I entered the compartment and removed the relay. I also found a nice assortment of starter relays. What do I need to look at to see if it is still good. Test procedure?

    M1010 A/C Compressor

I may be able to help. I have a few that still have them panels under there. I will look in about an hour when I get out of traffic. I will take some pictures. No promises.

M1009 Won't Start Suddenly and Melted Battery Post

It will work. But ether will also. As long as you are not spray painting the inside of the intake. A little huff while someone is cranking and magic spray works wonders. But I would pull the glow plugs and bench test them.

Where is that relay located on the M1010? I have several parts bodies for M1010 units.

    Paint Woes / price check

I agree that to do a professional, automotive grade paint job on a CARC painted CUCV would cost thousands. However, I am not sure why most folks insist the CARC must be sanded off. Most times the CARC was applied over a rusted truck that was not prepped or sealed properly. Also many paint jobs...

    Paint Woes / price check

To take apart and paint a truck from camouflage to tan. I would not even begin to know what to charge. I done everything. I rebuilt the engine, transmission, transfer case, all seals and brakes. New fenders hood , radiator and all new paint. I put rebuilt starter, alternators, new batteries...

M1008 and M1009 Owners... Roof Rack Possibility?

Not worth the effort. I gave it a try. I had several issues with alignment and gave up. It was the upper hatch that was the trick. I seen Plexiglas capper windows. It just didn't do it for me. I used a scrap M1009 as a proto type. Scrap it since then. I even tried the Astro van split doors idea...

M1009 Won't Start Suddenly and Melted Battery Post

I guess anything can go bad. I am guessing you are talking about the temperature sensor on the back top left. Yes they go bad. But if you have the system bypassed you will not need that anyway.

M1009 Won't Start Suddenly and Melted Battery Post

I have had great success using a snow plow relay/solenoid for my glow plug relay. I also have used Cole Hersse solenoids /relays. But a GM dealer will still sell you a glow plug relay for a mid 80 early 90's diesel pick up truck. They work great also. I don't have the part numbers at my finger...

Starter turns when key out of ignition

Forget it man. You will never win. Just do as I do and stay stock. I never had any issues with it that way. I wish I did so I could see this great meltdown that occurs while I just stand and watch. That's the part I don't get. I would react and stop the error. And reaching under the dash at knee...

Starter turns when key out of ignition

WOW. 11 pages about this issue. Is this like an infomercial on starter relays. I am still not buying it. I must go someone else is replying to this thread. Have a great day. :)

Starter turns when key out of ignition

So with that all said. Reversing the mounting of the stock relay under the dash would be another easy option. I am not sure I understand how cutting 24 volt to the starter would not stop the action but I guess anything and any scenario is possible. I am not sure how I have not had any of these...

Starter turns when key out of ignition

Just put the switch on the floor. The terminal will be under the truck. I have installed thousands on trucks for lift gate, battery shut off and winch power. They do not need any heavy protection. A bit of terminal spray and a tight greased connection is all it takes. And yes you can just switch...

Starter turns when key out of ignition

If you were to but a battery cut off on a CUCV. You could put a big HD Cole Hersee? ? on the single cable going to the battery and it could be anywhere you wanted it to be mounted. And flip it off if something starter related was happening that you were not wanting to happen. I never done it but...

BINGO. Give this man the prize. That is the only time I have seen issues with the stock set up. Low batteries. You my friend are a genius. Thank you. Thank you.
