Yes, that sounds right. If you look in the TM it explains how to install the pump. The motor needs to be at 20 BTDC using the hole in the bell housing ( if I recall correctly ) then you line up the marks under the timing cover plate on the side of the pump body before installing the pump.
Look...
Hi Jamaweib , Renuing.... I think there's a little confusion up above. Renuing, do you have the parts schematic for the pump? Under the big cap is the smaller cap that is a 5/8" 12 point nut. This is what is referred to as the delivery valve holder, #32 in diagram. Under that is #33 which is...
Hi guys, I thought I would share another painting trick I learned this weekend.
I've been restoring a MEP-003AASK ( one of 2 super low hour machines that I acquired this past summer )
The machine had just 6 hours on it, but has been sitting on a radar ( m1061 ) trailer since 1989.
The paint...
Hi Jonathan, the 2 most common issues with the IP are stuck plungers and broken plunger guides ( Dog bone )
If your plunger is sticking or isn't traveling its full length you won't enough fuel flow and if the plunger guide broke or skipped 90 degrees your timing will be way off. You also...
The Caswell epoxy does not require sand blasting. Just wash it out good with degreaser and hot water. Then I use a metal treating acid, same as you would use to etch metal prior to painting. You could also use muriatic acid and water to etch it a little.
If there's loose rust in it you can throw...
FYI, I occasionally use that same trailer to recover single skid frame units. I can pull it with my wife's mini van and take the family with me on "Vacation" while recovering a new purchase....
I also use it to deliver skid frame machines because it can be wheeled into position and it tilts to...
Have you tried checking to see why this unit became a parts donor? Might just want to at least check that the engine turns over by hand and hopefully your exhaust flap is in place?
On the torque of the cap over the delivery valve, it is just that, a cap. It is on there pretty tight, but I generally put them back on using a 1/2" socket wrench and 15/16" socket, hand tight plus an additional smack with the side of my fist, but the pump repair manual says 50-55Ft/lbs, then...
Jamaweib's suggestion about the throttle linkage and the Plunger guide on these machines is critical. Make absolutely sure the linkage moves freely and take off the cap and delivery valve and move the plunger as he said.
You can also spray carb or brake cleaner in there to help dissolve any gum...
I also use the Gillespe coatings 383 green from Rapco Parts 34094, looks to be the exact same can as what LITD gets from Army Jeep Parts.
It's probably a decent match on such a pristine NOS unit, but a little off on "Used" machines due to the fading of the original CARC coating.
Ends up a bit...
Awesome score... I'm by no means an expert on oil, but I would be hesitant to run straight synthetic right from the start, not so much for the rings but more for the lifters and cam. They use hydraulic lifters / cams which normally you would use an oil with high zinc content to break in...
Hello, Don't heat the threads, the fittings are riveted and soldered to the tank, you'll melt the solder out. I've always been able to get them unscrewed despite the rust. Sometimes they are pretty tight and need a few wacks with a dead blow hammer on the wrench, but they have always come out...
Hello everyone, Daybreak has asked me to start a new thread with this info so that it can be pointed to from a sticky for easy accessibility.
I purchased a set of stencils that I had custom made by a place on-line called Custom Cut stencils.
Attached are the proofs I used to purchase the...
There isn't a heck of a lot above the crank that can leak oil. Just the rocker covers and head gasket.
Maybe try cleaning it good and get in there with a mirror and try to see the highest point where oil comes back.
Do you think it could be coming from the rocker covers and running down the back...
I have used both the Fram C1125PL ( perfect fit ) and the Wix / NAPA 3113 and the only thing I know is that the housing is made by Fram and the C1125PL fits perfect. I buy them from Rock Auto .com
The Wix / Napa fit, but if the rod in the center of your canister still has the little 3 winged...
