The first thing is to get into the manuals. You'll learn ALOT. BFS is DOT 5 brake fluid. There isn't power steering. Possibly have the air assist but doubtful.

A 12 bolt is alot stronger than a 10 bolt and it is still behind a 6.2. It will not break. You are right if you can get the 14 bolt that is the best route.

Just install a 6 lug 373 geared dana 44 with 12 bolt rear out of a 70's 1/2 ton. Will be cheap and take the abuse.[thumbzup]

Oops, just noticed this was the early deuce forum. The M44 series were 15/16. I would ASSUME the early ones were the same especially with you stating that the rears were 15/16, since the early shackles were the same front to back, but I can't say with certainty on the early G149 series.

Portrayal press has manuals. There is also ebay. Neither will be cheap though.

When I installed mine I used two pieces of 1.5x4" "U" channel. Works great and was like $20.
