I jumped ahead of myself a little.. we are under a winter storm warning today, their forecast of 5 to 7" of snow was grossly overstated. We might have 2" of snow on the ground. Anyway, we fired up the M1009 and headed west.
I planned to stop at the CK Ranch and take some photo of their...
I took the boys out for another scoping rural Kansas trip today. In old Ellsworth town, we found this cool old hitching post. A concrete lion's head hitching post, I have seen a lot of hitching posts, but never another like this one. While the dogs were running around looking for something to...
They are just a half ton chassis, the military rates them as a 5/8ths ton? At any rate, when you go searching for parts, it is half ton parts you will need. They have the half ton, ten bolt corporate differential and use the half ton six lug wheels, not the eight lug 3/4-1 ton wheels. Glen
Mine were never restored nice enough to think about that car show thing, but at Arkansas City a few year ago, there was a group of guys that brought their restored Jeeps and a deuce in and that was a busy corner. They constantly had a group of people, young and old hanging out there. I had a...
The ditch was more impressive looking from the driver's seat than ground level. At any rate, it was a hoot to see you playing with the big toy and they sure are fun to listen to working. Thanks for sharing. Glen
When I had my M715 a guy stopped by the house to "look at it" and I could tell it meant a lot more to him than it did to me. It was just a toy for me, it had been a part of life for him. We talked and he told me he had not driven one for 25 years. I told him to just take it for the weekend if he...
That is screaming.... a 16.5 loaded radius at 65 mph is right at 3,000 rpm. I have run my M1008 that hard too, but I hate to. Normally I try to stay on the 50mph range. Just plug your number into this calculator.
Speed versus RPM calculator
In this case the loaded radius would be 17 with no...
We had one of those problematic loading days when I sold the red deuce for a friend on Ebay. It hasda locked up brake and we fought the thing most of the day. I did manage to get a short clip of it leaving town. Glad everything made it home safely for you. Glen
Bent driveshafts or broken transfer cases from forklift abuse. As far as the truck itself, they are pretty well built. Electrical issues seem to be the worst. If the gen light go out shortly after you rev the engine and do not come back on, that i a plus. The axles, transmission, brakes and...
The boys and I had to go to the bank to get some fuel money, to the post office to send out some coins, to the CO-OP to get some fuel and planned to go out someplace and run. While fueling, I saw a distantly related cousin and asked him about letting the dogs run on a property he recently...
I thought the wheelbase on a M-37 was only 112" or 9.33 feet. They have a little overhang on the front, but not 3 feet. Who cares if the end of the bed and tailgate are beyond the end of the bed. I'll bet a loading dock on both ends and you could just drive it on, drive it off. No worries about...
Just go buy starter bolts. They are knurled and need to be the correct length. I bought some at a parts store, had better luck just buying the original stuff from GM. I started putting in new bolts anytime I have the starter rebuilt.
Unplug the pink wire on your fuel pump prior to bleeding the filter. That will slow the introduction of air into the injection pump while you are bleeding with the lift pump. It should fire right off. If you get an air bubble, the filter will be pressurized by the lift pump and you should be...
80 mph in a M-1009 with a 3.08 gear is 2670 rpm on a 31" tire, a 33" at 80 will give you about 2508 rpm.
85 with a 31" is 2837 and 33" is 2665 rpm. That is smoking for a 6.2, a small block might be happy at 3,000 rpm, but a small block these are not.
80 with a 700R4 on 31" tires is right in...
Sweet! That Diamond T would look sweet on a 5 ton chassis! 8)
Dave, that is my way of life.... I would love to do what those guys on Pickers do. Not so much to buy and sell, but to meet all of those junk hoarders. I spotted a M817 today, it has been there for years. I need to go talk to that...
My wife loves it, she used to ask how I learned all this cool Kansas history. After being with me for 15 years, she knows how I learn it. Go to an area, spend a day or two goofing off and talking to the locals, it is amazing what they can share. 8) Glen
