I did half that distance, 800 miles, when I picked up my Deuce. Marchplumber gave a good start.
I would add
- 24 V light bulbs for brake/turn lights (gets you noticed by LEO if one blows)
- magnetic battery powered blinky lights (amber or red, depending on your highway traffic act) to put on...
I'd do that. It is so bomb technician style. None of the "if at first you do not succeed, try again" wimpy stuff. My life insurance is all paid up, though.
Batteries are ok, you say, so I would start with checking the battery cables, the ground strap to the frame and work my way forward from there. It could be a bad accessory switch ("master switch").
The TM has great step-by-step troubleshooting sections.
A copper washer is great; a flat plastic washer from the plumbing section (the ones used for sink traps; 1 1/4 inch I think) also works very well. I had the same problem after adding the remote reservoir...constant loss of brake fluid.
My two cents are that the best advice may well come from people that are not emotionally invested in what you are experiencing right now. Fact is, some MVs are beyond saving at this point in time (because they are not yet super rare, because fixing them up would cost a fortune in time and money...
BJT, you scored.
This is the kind of truck I have been looking for - and which I never found. I agree with adding a hard top - also from a user standpoint, a soft top on a dump truck is just...wrong. Even though it does have the headache rack, I would still want a (thin) sheet of metal over my...
You could mount the panel to the cowl with silicone only and wrap the wires around the rear edge of the hood. That would eliminate the need for holes. You do not want to mount the panel behind glass (e.g. windshield) as it drastically cuts performance. Alternatively, consider a pole behind the...
Wow, interesting discussions. Thanks, guys! :-)
I have one last spare LED headlight left and wil swap it in, after checking that low beam circuit and the lo/hi switch. If that light dies, it'll be back to halogens.
I am Mr. Lucky when it comes to LED headlights. From my first set, one died almost instantly (and yes, I took great care grounding them properly). Failure mode was: low beam went out, but all LED (including the ones used by low beam) lit up nicely on high beam. I replaced with two "new" ones...
Oh, that explains it! It is a STEALTH finished truck. They apply it with dirty brushes so it looks more...stealthy. With that coat, you can hear the truck, but not see it. And it leaks brake fluid to make people think it was an old Ford pickup that just passed by! Very high-tech, expensive...
Commercially, air intake shutoff valves are available (we have them on all of our fire trucks). Probably spendy, but you never know what you can find at a good truck salvage yard. They are usually spring loaded and deploy automatically (rpm sensor) and/or with a switch.
Look at these...
Looks good! As for the UK military Bedfords, there is one sitting for sale near where I live. Looks to be in great shape. It appears to be a rugged, no-frills military truck and they were in service in large numbers. It is about the weight class of a deuce, but a cabover and 4x4. Maybe try in...
Just make sure that you take video clips of the "before" (tree; showing the smashed cabin), the debris and rust - and when she starts on the first attempt! Awesome on YouTube!
Am I the only one that watches a great youTube video in his head right now, where a Deuce rips the stuck truck apart and the Deuce driver shrugs and drives off? :goodjob:
