IP problem with my new Deuce...need advice

IMHO it would be a shame to dismantle an otherwise good truck for parts. I understand that the joy of ownership is somewhat tainted right now. Even if you do not want to mess with that engine anymore (for example, because after this, you just would not trust it anymore), consider pulling the...

is a bobbed deuce a practical daily driver?

Mine has a muffler, Humvee seats, front lockouts and is singled on 11.00-20 Goodyears - and I still would not want to use it as a daily driver. Part of why I love driving my truck is that I hardly ever HAVE to get anywhere with the clock ticking. If I want to, spur of the moment, turn into that...

Convoy Light installation with a soft top question..

    The Deuce....Yeahhhhh...It's home !! 1981 M35a2c

If you already love your truck and you have not even heard it run, yet, just wait until you get to drive it! Your wife/gf will report you missing!

Convoy Light installation with a soft top question..

I would not cut the soft top for this. I used steel conduit and U bolt pipe clamps in the existing cab holes. I know that the pipe needed to be spaced off the rear cab wall in order to accommodate the soft top and I used the appropriate exhaust pipe clamps with a built-in "spacer". It was tight...

    fuel filter conversion unit

I am using Westfolk's kit that uses a spin-on primary filter with water separator and a spin-on secondary filter (the double bracket is removed). There is considerable doubt as to the effectiveness of the secondary two-filter stock setup; it does not appear as if fuel had to pass through the...

You really need to read and follow this: http://www.jatonkam35s.com/DeuceTechnicalManuals/TM9-2320-209-20-2-1.PDF Chapter 25. Follow the thick black line... Also, make sure you download and have all of the manuals applicable to your truck...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I was going to add the "worthless without pics" icon but then my brain kicked in.

Circuit breakers are on the fire wall in the engine compartment. If you have no electrical, make sure your batteries are still hooked up correctly and the main wires are not broken/chafed through. The auxillary switch ("ignition") on the dash could also be defective, preventing the gauges and...

    Winch help, leaks from drum

Some have said that elevator companies are a good source for the cable; they have to switch out cables after a certain run time even if they have no visible defects and you may be able to get the 150 ft you need before they cut the cables up into pieces.

Just Got My Deuce, and of course a few new questions.

What does the data plate on the passenger side of the dash say about your truck? It appears from the pictures as if the cab were 1970' MERDC camo and the bed was the later 3 colour camo. I wonder what happened there. The truck looks solid, cosmetics aside. Is it a non-turbo multi (thin exhaust...

    Winch help, leaks from drum

You did not happen to spool the winch with the winch drive engaged, by popping the clutch handle on the winch in or out? Dangerous. You would stand in the wrong place with respect to a moving steel line and things can get dangerous in a split second when winching. The winch needs to be run from...

    Return fuel line Fittings

I found that the ferrules (standard plumbing ferrules) were too wide to allow the stock compression nut to grab the first threads. I had to run the ferrules over the grinder a bit to get the compression nut on. Worked ok and no leaks.

    Pump on top of engine?

Open flame intake heaters used to be the state of technology at the time. I am not too happy about the different ways that they can fail and dump fuel into locations it should not go; they can also be used improperly. The military itself decided to move to metered dose ether start assist and...

Deuce re-paint, add winch, super single, power steering, with pictures!!!

A Deuce without traces of weeping seals and some oil underneath looks so un-Deuce-like! I hope that problem will recitfy itself, once you drive it. Great job!

    Braking issues with new truck.

If your master cylinder cap is leaking, make sure you have the flat plastic washer on the cap that seals it. If that is missing, a flat washer for a 1 1/4 (I think; better measure) sewer trap from your home hardware store is an almost exact fit. The cap needs to seal in order for the pressure...

    A Few Deuce Questions

The UK built trannys are identical to the US built ones. They pop up in trucks once in a while, it appears. The 3053 vs. 3053A discussion http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?5535-Spicer-3053-Transmission did not come up with any conclusive differences between the two, nor did this one...
