    MEP-002a / 003a guage size?

Hey Ike, did you order one of the square analog gages that will cover the entire existing hole? I'd be interested to know how that one fits. I have used the small rectangular panel mount digital Hz/volt gages before. It worked well but requires you to fab up and adapter plate to fit the existing...

    Tips to change head GP

A friend of mine who restores antique outboard motors ( with plenty of rusty and frozen fasteners ) is a firm believer in heating and cooling the nasty looking fasteners a few times before trying to unscrew them. He heats them up with a torch, then sprays them with ice water, then repeats... He...

    Cutting oil as fuel?

:ditto: I'll give another vote for selling it. There has to be plenty of shops that would buy it for way more than the value of 55gl of diesel. Do you have spesific information as to the brand name and type of cutting oil? It would be useful to advertise as much info as possible and check what...

    recommendations for restore

As suggested above, PPG's DPLF line of Epoxy primer is the best way to go, however its a bit pricey. Check your local paint supply shop and see if they carry PPG's Omni line of automotive paints. The Omni Epoxy primer is much more economical and also made by PPG. As for topcoat I've used POR 15...

Twinning the exhausts on an 003A?

:ditto: Who knows.... the "Y" fitting might even create a slight scavenging effect and make it run better! Definitely can't forsee any problem with it...

    Rust repair opinion?

With fiberglass you also tend to have problems caused by different expansion rates between fiberglass and steel, especially on dark colors when exposed to the sun. Might not be an big issue in this application, but it can cause undesireable, noticeable seams when used in a show car applications...

    Mep-003A Ice Storm Runaway Engine

Guess I missed the broken ring part, but still, I don't think starting it for a few seconds will cause any additional damage, as long as he's able to kill the air supply in case of a run away situation. Maybe there's a way to check the IP functionality without starting it, not sure myself, if so...

    Mep-003A Ice Storm Runaway Engine

Maybe it would be worth trying to start it again and try manually pushing down on the linkage at the IP to verify if the linkage is having any affect on engine speed or not? Have someone else there ready to shut it down if things get out of hand and have the air intake tube off and a rag handy...

    Rust repair opinion?

Thanks... Actually I have used SEM's epoxy panel adhesives several times. I like using it in areas that wouls be prone to rusting from the back side if you were to weld in a patch panel. The Ford Super Duty pickups for example rot out around the wheel wells a lot, so if I put in a weel well...

Small spark when I connect the batteries on the 002?

I've got 3 MEP-002A's and all 3 spark when connecting the batteries. I've always assumed it was a leaky cap on the regulator like others mentioned. My solution was to get $6 battery disconnect terminals ( battery terminal with a green knob on it) from Harbor freight and install on the wire...

new MEP - items of concern?

You know... Tripple Jim was reading my mind... I was just about to give GimpyRobb a shout out for having some of the best avatars on here, but you beat me to it! Now leave it alone for a while so we can enjoy it! As for the rusty fins you could probably get a lot of the loose flakey rust off...

    Fuel Tank Rust Removal

One thing I've done several times was to use metal etching ( metal Prep ) acid (diluted per the instructions) and a whole bunch of screws, nuts bolts and other metal pieces. Throw it all into the tank about 1/4 full of liquid and shake it around vigorously. Dump it out and rinse or power wash...

New MEP-003A owner & Genset newbie

So does anyone know what ever happened with SuperSecretSquirrel's machine? Looks like the thread ended 3 years ago with a replacement IP being on its way... Did he ever get the generator up and running?

New Member/Western North Carolina RE: MEP 003A

Not sure on a diesel, but I've seen cars with a small head gasket leak between the cylinders where the result was lowered compression due to pressure going back and forth between 2 adjacent cylinders. When you disassemble, look closely at the gasket and block/head surfaces for either damage or a...

New Member/Western North Carolina RE: MEP 003A

I don't think I'd bother warming it up and rechecking. If everything on your gage is working correctly and compression really is 200 PSI, a little heat isn't going to get you into spec. Unfortunately it sounds like its time to pull it apart. Wasn't there another member recently with low...

New member - Need generator advice

Good work guys! I assume you will be getting a hard copy since it doesn't look like they have a PDF listed. I don't know what the rules are for posting TM on this site, could it be scanned and posted here on SS in the generator TM section? Or are there any copyright restrictions on these...

    Needle gun/Scaling gun

I too have extensively used the cheap H.F needle scaler as well as about 3 sets of replacement needles to date and it has held up pretty well, for a cheap tool made in who knows where. They work well on flakey paint and rust but like RedBeard said, it's best to get the heavy off with the needle...

New member - Need generator advice

Welcome Parrothead! Hopefully some of the fine members here will be able to help you identify what you have there, maybe a picture would help?? Once you identify it, maybe you can get a TM or service manual to get more detail as to how to prep it to attempt starting. In general the things you...

    Rattle can'ing a M923

Awesome! If you plan to do a lot of blasting, get yourself a pressure tank style blaster, way better than the siphon type for anything bigger than a football. Whatever you decide to use for media, always sift it through a window screen so you don't get anything clogging your tip. I use a cheap...
