Thanks! I think you should take your truck and a camera and share a few mural shots with us. I really enjoy those and I know there are others here that do as well. I skipped a lake photo....
It was dark or very close to it when we rolled into Winfield. I wanted to get a shot of the M1009 at their war memorial. The memorial is a first class act, but the lack of light killed me. I took a cheap shot and will have to return. It was a great day!
Just north of Winfield on US 77 there is an old church building. I had been by here many times and had always planned to stop. Bud was squeaking, so I decided to stop and investigate. I should have taken a photo, they cut the back of this building and put in some overhead doors. Anyway, the boys...
When we got down to Florence, I wanted to visit the spring and spring house. It is in a beautifully secluded spot. Maybe the best tasting water I ever drank... The road was very soft, the M1009 could have made it in and out, but I did not want to tear it up for the city trucks.
We did stop at...
As we passed through Herington, I remembered a couple of murals, one Coca Cola and one Rock Island, so I had to go see if they were still surviving... They were!!!
The boys and I hopped in the M1009 and went to Winfield today, to take my daughter out to eat. It was a good excuse to get out of town.
We stopped at the Herington Reservoir to let off some enrgy and fluids... The boys had a good romp and I messed around until the wind got the best of me. The...
Up and down or in and out? Like Boggins said, these are C clip retained axles. The axles are retained by a C clip in the differential. I think you will find if you rock about an rear wheel drive Chevrolet smaller than a half ton back and forth, like pushing and pulling on the bed rail or rear...
Great plan, I like it... I always use a container with a screw on lid. Rough rides are nothing new for me and I have had too many spilled beverages in my history. I like a plastic bottle with a screw on lid, so it does not break or spill. Those eye bolts in the bed of my M1008 were put in there...
This whole series of Chevrolet trucks was pretty tough and millions remain on the roadway. I agree we cannot haul everything, but the filters and spare diesel oil seems prudent. I like to carry washer fluid too, these trucks have a tiny fluid tank. Fuel conditioner is this day of low sulphur...
I carry a set of tools an oil and a fuel filter. Everything else is good.... do not forget to carry a good spare tire! If your truck has been running trouble free, life should be good! I also carry a gallon of Rotella 15-40 and a bottle of Power Service fuel additive.
As long as he is alive, I can get you in to look and probably drive about anything you want to try. The cost of admission is sgning the guestbook. I think he is someplace around 40 cars and 30 antique Caterpillars. He has some interesting stuff, a 47 Lincoln V12, several Model Ts, 1916 through...
The one at the Sheriff's Office is not for sale, wish it was!
The one in the 400 block of N. Broadway is behind the old Car Shoppe building and is a gasser. It has been painted two tone blue, appears to be a solid old truck and has not moved since they brought it in here about four years ago...
There is another in the 400 block of N. Broadway with a box bed. That Deuce is very nice and runs super, the Sheriff's Office bought it from the Airport Authority for a dollar. They have since put air assist steering on it and they plan to paint that beautiful deuce white and mark it like the...
Kansas titles have a place on them for odometer error, no foul as long as you are not mis-representing the vehicle as xx,xxx miles. They also have a little box to mark past mechanical limits, ie 100,000 miles. It is a felony here as well to roll one back trying to misrepresent the car. A lot of...
They have large brakes and should handle that load easy enough, but I think just the truck weighs more than 4,000 pounds.
If you do not mind driving under 55 and do not expect to go 55 uphill loaded, you should be fine. They are what they are, heavy duty pickups with a light duty engne. The...
Augusta is at the Intersection of US 77 and US 54 or highway 400, it is a pretty drive rolling in from the north on 77 or the east on 400. If I can get off, I will be there. Might bring two trucks, my son would enjoy this and he could just go home if he got bored..... life's a little different...
