Stock M1009s run pretty easily at 65 to 70.
Stock M1008s run pretty easily at 50 to 55.
On 32" rubber at 2200 rpm the M1009 runs 68 mph the M1008 runs 46 mph.
On 36" rubber at 2200 rpm the speeds are roughly 76 and 51.
A 4.10 axle with 36" rubber at 2200 would be roughly 57 mph.

If it ran good and drained down after being shut down, I would replace the lift pump first. It is behind the lower radiator hose on the passenger's side, just in front of the engine mount. On top of the fuel filter block on the firewall, on the passenger's side of the engine, there is a black...
If all goes well, I will be leaving Salina, KS headed for Salt Lake City, UT Thrusday to pick up my second M1009. The reports on it are good so far.... I am taking a filter along and plan to change it before starting home. I never thought of the bottle on the windshield trick. Thanks for that...
Be easy on the RTV, I have not seen a 6.2 go down because of it, but I sure have seen a lot of V8s that were hammered from RTV excess getting into the oil pan. It gets sucked up onto the oil pickup screen and clogs it. The stuff is made to be petroleum resistant, so it does not break down. I...
I have been out of the loop for some time, been working too much and mechanicing a lot less. I know it ised to be that when a guy came in with front wheel drive issues.... Frequently it was because the hub had hard dry grease in it and the clods of hard dried lube prevented the hub from...
Bob, Those two are beautiful! Our local Sheriff's office had a beautiful black K9 and she was some kind of fast! I was one of the few that she liked right off. She was hyper protective and very good on drugs.
Back when I had my M715 I did not have the boys. I did have my crazy girl and she...
While you can drop in any transmission and change the middle shaft, your emergency brake and transfer case levers are mounted on the transmission. You will need to fab a new mount for those as well. I always thought the transfer case levers and robust emergency brake lever were an important...
As I understand it, that is the way it works, non-commercial. I was just at the tag office inquiring and that is what they told me. I know as a police officer, we never mess with the antique tags at all, other than running them once in a while to find out what we are looking at.
In Kansas the trick thing is to get one old enough to be an antique. 35 years, then there is no weight or registration fees after that. A lot of wheat farmers are loving that little loop in registration. So I want a M818, M813, M814 1974 or older...
I agree with that whole heartedly, that and respecting the engine's operating range. Watch your oil when you change it or check it. Really thin oil may be getting fuel in it. Foam is usually an indication of water. Oily coolant is not cool.....
My first one was running perfect January 16th, 2004.... On that day it got hit hard, mileage on the accident report reflects 88794. I got to drive mine home. The Suburban that ran the red light was totalled and towed. It still was not using oil and I never had any trouble with it. The flywheel...
Have you done the simple, like change the fuel filter. The 6.2 is no powerhouse, but if it is not getting fuel, it will be even worse. It should pull 33" tires with little difficulty though. If you are looking for big block acceleration, that is not there. It should pull the truck right up to 55...
You want to make sure you get a flywheel for a 6.2 as it is externally balanced. Did you notice the large weight spot welded into the original? Without that counter weight, you will have a horrible vibration and short bearing and crank life. Glen
There are a couple of members here that have pretty solid trucks for sale. You might browse around a little. Sorry about your loss, I have been there too many times. Glen
You ever angle through a ditch and plow the front bumper or drive over a terrace and belly out? That is the kind of things guys avoid with a lift. I was never a big fan of body lifts due to the leverage the body has on the mounts. One thing they do for the truck though, is keep the...
AJMBlazer.... That is some good advice. I bought some Bronco wheels for my Jeep back in the day and they worked great on the rear, but I had to take the front ones to the machine shop and have the center holes enlarged for the front. It was kind of disappointing for a high school kid working in...
