The M978 is coming along. We've got the reelbox on the back. We've mounted the fuel tank. My friend is finishing up the wiring. All the brakes and lines have been redone. We still need to find a donor motor. We've either located motors that were in the right price range that were rough, or...
IF you go the M813 route as Kenny suggests, I have a knuckle boom off of an M977 HEMTT. It is complete. It is rated to lift 4500 pounds within 9 feet...2500 pounds out to 19 feet. I paid $5K for the M977 that I WAS going to build. Since I bought a complete M977, I no longer need it. If you...
Is it too late to register? I live in Maryland...fairly close to Dave Olchak. Where would I meet up with you guys? The reason I hesitated to register was because, if I remember correctly, the convoy brings you guys to the show late in the day on Thursday. It might be fun, though, if I can...
Very, VERY cool pictures. Post more if you have them. Do you think the extra weight of the body is a help or a hindrance off-road? I would have thought the latter...but I don't have much experience off-roading with a deuce.
Dieselsmoke,
You could get an M172A1 25 ton lowboy. The only problem with them is that they are overwidth (114" wide). I've had one and they towed nicely behind my M52A1 and M932. The cool thing is they have a removeable kingpin that can either be used with the 10 ton tractor (or M911) or...
Nice truck. It sounds as though you did well. What's up with the exhaust stack? It looks a little taller than normal, but maybe it is just the picture. Is that a muffler on there.
Good luck with your new purchase.
In my honest opinion, $4K for that truck was WAY too much. That definitely was an older truck...as evidenced by the headlights (lower) and the fact that it has the sprag t-case. The only reason the truck went that high was because it looked pretty and had a vinyl cargo cover.
GL vs...
I had an M813A1 with the same problem. I replaced the gauge and the sending unit and never fixed the problem. For some reason, it appeared that it was warming up on the gauge twice as fast (and warm) as it really was. I did the same thing...checked the motor with a laser temperature gauge and...
Very nice truck. I like the super singles. The singled out deuces look a little scrawny from behind, but I still like 'em. What is the toggle switch over by the glovebox for? Just curious. Good luck with the truck!
Beautiful truck. Good luck and congratulations.
I believe that is a warning light (convoy light) switch. Check to see if there are any remnants from the convoy light kit. That is the same switch and data plate that is in my wrecker.
I can tell you that it is difficult to get that new wire rope (cable) to seat correctly. Be careful. Test it out before you try winching. If the wire rope comes loose while under load, watch out. You literally could be cut in half.
