    Equipment for my new Deuce

With the rear tire mounted on the truck it's as good as caged. You've got to put it on the truck anyway when you're done ( unless it's a spare or a front). The only way a ring could get you with the tire mounted on the rear of the truck is if you had a body part between the duals when the ring...

    Equipment for my new Deuce

The only problem with that is that it's got to where alot of tire shops won't even touch split ring wheels anymore and the shops that will charge you an arm and a leg. I've heard as much as $50 a wheel. The safest way to air up a rear tire is to mount it on the truck before adding air. If the...

    5.9 Cummins Re-power Question

You've got that right! I've got a boat and you can take any standard automotive part and put "marine" on it and the price automaticly doubles.

    5ton winch

The drum is hollow and the shaft passes through to the other side. I guess it is possible that the gear side is leaking and while you had it standing on end some oil ran through the drum to the other end so when you laid it back down it ran out.

    gl moving vehicles

I'm in the rigging and machinery moving business and use forklifts to move stuff every day that's alot more fragile than a CUCV without damage. There is a way to move trucks with a forkilift without damage if you want to take the time to do it. Just looking under and seeing where the forks are...

New plasma torch is DA BOMB!

I've got a pretty good size Miller (don't remember the model #) in on trade from a guy that owed me some money. Had it for a couble of months but haven't tried it out yet. Guess I'm kind of old school with a O/A torch but I'm sure it will come in handy cutting sheet metal, AL, and stainless.

    What did you guys do?

 I love my MVs but don't think I'd go that far :-D. I had collected a pretty good pile of stuff (scrap iron) when I got "the fever". I decided to clean the place up and make some cash to buy my first truck. It was a rough truck but I fixed it up good enough for a logger (they don't...

    1971 M35A2 interior paint color?

I would paint it with whatever I painted the outside with. The trucks came from the factory the same as the outside. Looks like they repainted the outside with CARC but didn't get around to painting the inside. If you like the color of the inside and want to repaint with that it's more than...

    gl moving vehicles

You nailed it. It's the easiest way and like you said, they just don't care.

    Transfer Case for a PTO

The deuce tractors are a little shorter than a cargo. I'd say if you didn't go any shorter than a fith wheel truck you'd be ok. USMC, If you go flange to flange or just use one u-joint you are going to have to line them up perfectly and brace them where they can't move independently in the...

Got a few problems. Please help.

I don't think that would be your VIN on the spring hanger. That's more than likely a casting number for the hanger. A way to spot a repowered Gasser is some will still have gasser fenders ( the flat part of the fender top extends into the engine compartment) and one of the back engine mounts...

    Transfer Case for a PTO

PTOs aren't that expensive if you shop around. I've seen trans PTOs for $250. For the amount of fab work involed I would go with the trans PTO. I'm all for designing crazy stuff that nobody else has done and make it work but this sure seems like a whole lot of work for very little gain. The...

    Deuce Crank case oil

Some people swear to use 30wt because that's what the manual calls for. The Military has switched over to 15w40 in them though. I was running Rotella 15w40 but have switched over to CO-OP 15w40 because it is cheaper and has the same specs.

    Kaiser vs AM General

I think it was around '69. They were called General Products Division (of the Jeep Corporation) after that. Then in about '71-'72 they changed to AM General. The trucks never did change where they were made the company just changed names. They are really the same truck made by the same people...

    Kaiser vs AM General

The only difference will be that Kaisers will be older than AM Generals .

    Cummins hard to start

There is no pump timing on the NHC 250 Cummins. The cam would have to be out of time for you to loose injector timing. Most of these engines (even if left sitting for years) are easy to bring back to life. Just make sure you have enough juice going to the starter to whip it over good and no air...

    Deuce "Eager Beaver" article

General Products Division was a division of the Jeep Corp. It says so on the data plates of the GPD trucks. I'm almost 100% sure GM didn't build any of the M44 trucks.

    M105c?

You can tow them home empty with a regular pickup truck without problems. You'll need to rig up some sort of lights and carry a jack with you to get it hooked up. I tow my M105 regularly loaded with my 2500 Dodge without problems but I take it slow so I can stop ok and I fabed a hitch so it...

    Deuce "Eager Beaver" article

The funny thing is they continued to build the M35 series trucks into the late '80s long after Reo was long gone. That's the problem with companies designing anything for the military. After you submit the design and they sign off on it you loose all rights to it. Anybody (the lowest bidder) can...

    Replacing axle gasket outer

Ok, You and I are not on the same page. I was thinking back axle and you were thinking front. You are correct in your statement about the front. I just assumed he was talking about a back axle but I could be wrong. We were both right, just on different ends of the truck :-D.
