It is almost 100% confirmed anecdotally that the three bolt bracket on the rear of the compressor/hyd pump tandem unit comes loose and this leaves it all hanging off the aluminum timing cover. Now how that comes loose (driveline vibration, engine vibration etc) is a debatable question. But I...

Oh and make sure to look at the “oil line of death”. You’ll want to get to that sooner than later.

What is cracked is called the timing cover. It’s a BIG job to replace it. Best solution is to find a welder who can do this type of field repair on aluminum. It’s just a terrible design if that bracket comes loose.
