I was on my way home and about 3 miles away from there when I started hearing a kind of puffing sound, which seemed to originate from the front driverside wheel.
It was a "tss tss tss" sound that varied with road speed, independent of the air-assisted steering. It happens going both forwards...
That is fascinating! I need to do some electrical troubleshooting myself which may involve pulling the alternator out of the truck next year. I'll be sure to check for this. I can't remember the manufacturer off the top of my head, but it has the sunburst-style heat sink on the back.
If the CTIS is anything like on the M35A3, it's not going to hurt anything as long as it's left in the OFF position, and I'm not sure wheel valve failure is likely. From reading around the forum, the M939A2 CTIS is a better design than what's on the M35A3 and at least doesn't need to be driven...
I agree with the price comments. I've seen trucks on Facebook in better condition go for cheaper. The seller seems very optimistic about the price. It's not a nice FMTV lol
I never realized that. Looking in the operator's manual, I now see the winch controls inside the cab are on the shift tower. I'm guessing the air controls are there to eliminate the possibility of hydraulic oil leaking in the cab through a direct hydraulic valve (they always leaked on the...
I think I found it here:
http://miscpartsmanuals2.tpub.com/TM-9-2320-386-24P/TM-9-2320-386-24P0268.htm
Part #9 in the diagram: Part #11669082 CROSS,PIPE
So what I thought went to the steering cylinder actually either goes to the engine fan clutch or the priority valve. I believe the...
Well that explains why I don't have those on my truck (no winch on mine). I think it's interesting that the winch has air going to it and isn't directly hydraulic, unless there's something I'm missing in its operation.
The transfer case needs it for front end in/out, though I haven't...
@Sgt Jiggins did you ever figure this one out? I checked under my truck today and found no air lines going into the transmission. The TM doesn't mention any either except for the ones that go past it.
Just a thought: has your air system's air dryer been working properly with ejecting...
It's on my truck too. The one hose going diagonally down to the driver fender at least goes to the steering air assist system. It looks like another goes to the back of the compressor. Without looking at the TM, i don't know if that's another compressor outlet, but i doubt that it is. One...
I'd try to get in touch with these guys: http://www.ny-pennmvcc.com/
What flavor of deuce are you looking at getting? An A3 will probably be an experience comparable to the FMTV. I've never driven an A2, but i have a feeling that it would drive like a bigger M37/Power Wagon.
Carrying in the bed within design limits is one thing, but towing a trailer close to exceeding the truck's towing limit when empty? I'd be worried about breaking the transmission! I'm assuming the AT1545 is the reason why the truck's towing capacity was derated to 6000 lbs. Otherwise I'd love...
That truck looks nice! Even has a winch :) I used to let my foot off the gas to force a shift to 4th, but i didn't like the truck slamming itself into 4th. Instead, I put the pedal nearly to the floor and let it shift through the gears at its own pace. I find it shifts pretty smoothly that...
I believe that to be true too. Some bus owners wanted the locking torque converter of the 1545, so they bought surplus 1545 transmissions to swap their 545s out with :p Meanwhile, the TM describes doing the opposite to the M35A3, so it seems like military planners either didn't like the 1545...
@Sgt Jiggins mentioned that he had a 1545 installed, which has the locking torque converter. The common 545 does not lock.
Searching the internet, I found that surplus 1545 transmissions were really popular with bus enthusiasts!
I think I remember that truck being listed on this site for sale!
I haven't heard about exploding fuel pumps, just the cracked alternator bracket really. Like @glcaines my truck starts instantaneously as well with the stock fuel pump unless it's below 45 degrees outside. Had it at a car show...
I'm happy to see the tranny is working right :) If I find some time this week maybe I can try to locate those lines on my truck.
As for an alternator, I've thought about putting one in there from a parts M35A2. However, I really want to keep the truck looking 1990s modern and would like to...
The one air line mention I saw in the TM is for the main air line that comes straight from the compressor. It seems that it runs close enough to the tranny that it needs to be removed for tranny removal. It does not go into the tranny, though.
So now I'm thinking they're vent lines. Or, did...
Pictures from the past weekend of what's probably the only car show in my area for the entire year. In one of them you see how well the camo paint job works :ROFLMAO: It was definitely the biggest vehicle there!
