Parts of the spare ammo can cradle partially disintegrated in the blasting cabinet and there's still more internal rust on the back and bottom. It obviously had been left too long in the weather. I took it to be repaired at my favorite place: The Iron Works in Woods Cross, UT.
Scott informed me...
Jack's Tire & Oil in Logan, UT came through once again. I don't know how, but they managed to dismount the 3 good wheels between both trailers. I kind of wish I had been there to watch. Poor guys.
I blasted (steel shot media) the wheels. There definitely is some rust pitting, but the lock ring...
That's good thinking there Mr. bikeman! It'll be interesting to hear what 3M has to say if/when they reply.
I was also thinking of putting the reflectors on automotive magnetic sheets. Mostly so if one is damaged or wears out in the weather it can be replaced easier without trying to peel it...
Trying to upload a PDF file. Same behavior as images that won't upload until I resize them (and often convert them to PNG too). I have uploaded 40mb PDFs before.
OS: Windows 7
Browser: Tried in both Firefox v45.0.1 (up to date at the time of this writing) and Internet Explorer v11.0.9600.18097...
Once restored, I still wanted the ~8" x ~8" delineator reflectors on the fenders, because most of the pioneer tool trailers that I've seen have had damage to the fenders. I can only surmise that it is a common issue on those parts of the body that "stick out there" so I want the fenders to be as...
The donor trailer still had the blackout light too. It was located on the underneath of the frame on the right rear. Its mounting bracket has obviously been bent from an impact with the ground.
The light didn't work with initial tests and all the interior corrosion speaks as to why...
A couple weeks ago I very carefully removed the original tail lights from the donor trailer. Frankly, I was surprised at the condition of the plugs and original wire harness. The rear section of the rear wire harness (so far) appears 100% reusable and only 1 wire on the right taillight needs...
Definitely not "383 Green", but just a generic "Forest Green". You can also do Rapco-rattle cans if you want, but I find the paint from most rattle-cans scratch easily.
Be advised that Rapco isn't quite as flat as CARC, a little more on the "egg shell" side for sheen...
The day I read this, I, sadly, knew that Wreckerman was pretty prophetic! I've sold this one here to my good friend red. Not that I didn't want the truck (far from it!) or still don't REALLY want a wrecker, but I think I'd enjoy it more if I had a very large building to store it and more inside...
In the first picture you can also make out "120 Volts". It's an in-line coolant heater that you plug in over night or several hours before driving to help the truck start when it's cold outside. It definitely looks nonoperational.
It is tight, and be careful as always when lifting a vehicle!
I think this is posted earlier in this thread, but this is from when I did mine and I had to scoot the axle over to gain access to the locator pin I broke. Obviously you won't need to go to this extreme and can probably (and should)...
Here's some pictures of the "parts donor" trailer. It's more rusty than you'd think based on how GOOD much of the original paint is. It looks like a dinosaur chewed on parts of it.
Honestly, it's still restorable - but it's a question of how much time (and skill?) do you have or how much do...
